Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and its staff are on the long path to recovery after a major explosion in the season premiere left multiple people injured, one character dead and caused severe damage to the structure.
The blast, caused by a cauterization tool igniting gas in an operating room, injured multiple characters, including Dr. Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack). Known as the goofball Link on the show, the orthopedic surgeon was the most severely injured character and shared an emotional farewell phone call with his new wife, Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), though he miraculously survived.
Showrunner Meg Marinis told TV Insider the new season “will touch on the long road to recovery.”
In the upcoming episode, which is also the show’s 450th, “the team at Grey Sloan navigates a chaotic first day of surgical rotations amid hospital renovations,” according to ABC, while Meredith spends time with Amelia.

The next episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 22, which is also the show’s 450th episode, will air on ABC on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. ET/ 9 p.m. CT. The episode, titled “We Built This City,” will be available to stream on Hulu the next day.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22 episode schedule
New “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 22 episodes drop weekly on Thursdays on ABC starting Oct. 9, with them becoming available to stream on Hulu the following day.
However, the series will go on hiatus in November and return midseason sometime in 2026. ABC has not specified the date the series will return from the break.
Seasons 1 to 21 of “Grey’s Anatomy” are available to stream on Hulu and Netflix.
