Meet the Children of the ‘Chicago P.D.’ Cast — Including One Who Starred On-Screen with Their Dad! md06

When the Chicago P.D. cast isn’t filming, several of them trade their hardened cop personas for that of loving parents when they go home to their kids.

Jason Beghe, for instance, has portrayed Sergeant Hank Voight on Chicago P.D. since the show’s start in 2014, and he’s become as much of a father figure to his co-workers on set as he is to his sons, Bix and Bo Bear.

The veteran actor admitted he takes the same approach with his junior castmates as he does with parenting his sons.

“Just like my own kids, they’re better than I am,” he said on a 2021 episode of the Better Together w/ Anne and Heather podcast. “I think a good way to go about it that’s worked for me is not, ‘What can I teach them?’ but, ‘What can I learn from them?’ “

When it comes to his own boys, now adults themselves, Beghe couldn’t be prouder. “I’m very pleased with who they are as human beings,” he said. “They’re good people and they’re empathetic and decent. I’m excited to see how they unfold.”

Beghe is far from the only parent on the show. Here’s everything to know about the kids of the Chicago P.D. cast.

On-screen, Jason Beghe’s Chicago P.D. character, Sergeant Hank Voight, is a father to his son, Justin, who was killed, and a grandfather to his grandson, Daniel.

In real life, Beghe started his family with ex-wife Angie Janu when they welcomed their son Bix, followed by son Bo Bear.

Throughout his time with the NBC procedural show, the actor has had to spend time in Chicago filming and be away from his children, which he admitted was tough.

“Sometimes [as an actor] you have to go away, and … the best thing you can give your kids is you,” he said on the Better Together podcast. “I wished I’d been there with them more, like I missed living with them on a daily basis. But the time that we could spend together became more valuable.”

Beghe then revealed that his younger son had recently decided to relocate to Chicago to live with him, and he was “honored.”

“He moved here, he’s finishing off eighth grade here, and we’re applying to school,” he said in 2021. “I feel very confident that he’s made the right move for him, and it’s certainly the right move for me … I’m happy.”

Original Chicago P.D. cast member Marina Squerciati has been playing the role of Kim Burgess since 2014, eventually becoming the on-screen adoptive mother of Makayla beginning in season 8, after her biological parents were killed.

Off-screen, Squerciati is also a girl mom. She welcomed a daughter with husband Eli Kay-Oliphant in 2017 and later a second child in 2024.

The couple keep their children’s lives private, including not sharing their names. Notably, Squerciati surprised fans with the news she welcomed baby No. 2 on New Year’s Eve 2024.

“2024 was a BIG year for me, literally,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her baby bump. “PS. THIS was the real reason I wasn’t in the first two episodes of #ChicagoPD, I was having a baby.”

LaRoyce Hawkins has been a staple on Chicago P.D., playing Kevin Atwater, since the series began. He became a dad himself with the birth of his son, Roman, in 2017, and many of his castmates were around for the big moment.

“I remember when we found out. We were working,” Hawkins said in a 2019 interview. “It was like, ‘Oh, the baby’s coming.’ And we couldn’t do nothing until we got off work!”

The actor admitted that becoming a dad has helped him in his iconic role. “Having a son has really made my approach to Atwater a lot more powerful,” he shared. “Now I truly understand my assignment on this show.”

Hawkins continued, “[My son’s] joy is probably the most important thing to me. It really has made me a stronger artist to be able to tell these stories more authentically.”

Fatherhood has also changed him on a personal level. “I knew there was gonna be some things that I had to change about myself and some growth that I had to embrace,” he said in a clip for Men’s Health in 2024. “I can’t teach him anything I haven’t gone through or accepted for myself.”

Hawkins added, “I see myself a lot in him, so when I tighten up and level up, I understand that it’s not just for me and my career. I know it’s for my legacy through my son.”

Jon Seda starred as Antonio Dawson on Chicago P.D. from seasons 1 through 6. In real life, he’s a devoted husband to his wife of 25 years, Lisa Gomez, and the dad of four kids: daughters Jessy, Haley and Madison and son Jonathan.

Seda once told the Chicago Tribune that becoming a father changed the whole trajectory of his life.

When he first began finding professional success, “a whole new world was opened up to me.” The Selena alum explained that he saw himself heading toward negative patterns, but that all shifted when his son Jonathan was born.

“I told him before he could even walk, I’d whisper in his ear, ‘You saved daddy’s life,’ ” he recalled to the outlet in 2000. “He doesn’t understand, but he will know one day. He put me on the right track.”

These days, Seda’s son is following in his footsteps as an actor. The two have even worked together on TV shows, like Chicago Fire and La Brea.

“People are always coming up to me telling me how great it is working alongside my dad, so I try my best to follow his example. So then maybe one day people will say the same about me,” Jonathan told Entertainment Tonight in 2022.

He continued, “Although we weren’t in the same scene, he still made time to check up on me like he always has, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to spend time with him like that. There’s nothing wrong with learning from the best!”
