Turns out Melanie Griffith and Dakota Johnson are just like the rest of us — they have tense mother-daughter arguments too!
Only in their case, it’s in front of thousands of Oscar viewers.
The mother-daughter duo’s pre-Oscars interview with Good Morning America’s Lara Spencer already started off on a cold note, when Melanie was surprisingly frosty when asked about the incredible box-office success of Dakota’s Fifty Shades of Grey.
“I don’t want to say ‘I’m so proud,’ I’ve said it so many times, it seems like it’s not enough,” she said with a tight smile.

The 57-year-old actress then admits she still hasn’t seen the film.
“Maybe one day,” Dakota said, though Melanie was adamant about not seeing it.
“I don’t think I can,” she said. “I think it would be strange.”
But 25-year-old Dakota just couldn’t. let. it. go.
Watch the video to see an exasperated Dakota, who ABC eventually has to actually censor.
… But we’ve all been there with our own moms, amirite?
