Yellowstone Star Joins Taylor Sheridan’s New Action Series as Production Kicks Off md06

Taylor’s Sheridan’s Lioness has added a Yellowstone actor to its cast, revealing new character details as production begins. After a long wait, Lioness season 3 was officially renewed by Paramount+ in August. The announcement, which came almost roughly 10 months after the season 2 finale, confirmed that Oscar winners Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman will return as Joe McNamara and Kaitlyn Meade.

The drama zeroes in on CIA operations, with Joe and Kaitlyn among those that enlist new operatives to face new threats. But along the way, Joe finds herself questioning whether the methods and her personal sacrifices are worth being leader of the Lioness program, with familiar faces popping in and out of the large ensemble.

Now, Variety reports that Yellowstone star Ian Bohen has joined Lioness as a series regular. Known for his roles as Peter Hale in the Teen Wolf franchise and Ryan in Yellowstone, Bohen will play Grady, a character described as a “by-the-book Delta Force operator and primary K9 handler, skilled in battlefield tactics.”

News of Bohen’s addition comes along with the reveal that production on the action drama is currently underway at SGS Studios in Texas. The actor, also known for his role in Mad Men and Superman & Lois, joins a Lioness cast that has included Laysla De Oliveira, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, Genesis Rodriguez, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, and LaMonica Garrett, among others.

The new season of Lioness marks Bohen’s fourth project involving Sheridan. In addition to his time as Yellowstone‘s Ryan, Bohen appeared in Sheridan’s film Wind River. He also had a role in Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the Sicario sequel, which Sheridan wrote. He is among the established trend of actors that Sheridan frequently works with, since he is present for all Yellowstone seasons.

Project Bohen’s Character
Mad Men (2007) Roy Hazelitt
Teen Wolf (2011) Peter Hale
Wind River (2017) Evan
Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) Carson
Yellowstone (2018) Ryan
Superman & Lois (2022) Mitch Anderson

In the Lioness season 2 finale, Joe and Kaitlyn both make major moves. The episode provides closure for much of the season’s main stories, although there’s the lingering suggestion that Joe will have a lot more to face in the future. Bohen’s arrival as Grady may well complicate the situation depending on where his alliances ultimately land and how he informs Joe’s recurring sense of unease about her job.

Sheridan’s shows on Paramount+ essentially define the streamer. At least part of it comes down to how, along with casting very recognizable faces, he’ll have a recurring roster of performers that he’ll lean on to populate his shows. It’s too early, on the whole, to speak to how Bohen will impact the new season of Lioness, but there are a lot of possibilities.

Bohen’s role in Lioness also keeps him in the overall Sheridan orbit, increasing the possibility and ease with which ranch worker Ryan could potentially appear in any of the present-day Yellowstone spinoffs such as the upcoming Beth and Rip series. It’s good news, overall, for fans of a familiar face from a wide variety of dramas that stretch from supernatural and superhero fare to Westerns.
