As such, it would make sense for the show’s creators to drag out its run for as long as possible. Young Sheldon’s ratings were still stellar when the series ended back in 2024, but that prequel to The Big Bang Theory always had to end with its seventh season. The original show had already canonically confirmed George Sr.’s death.
Why Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Should Break Up Its Main Couple
Viewers Already Know Their Separation Is Inevitable
As such, even though Young Sheldon was a ratings powerhouse, The Big Bang Theory’s first spinoff had to wrap up with the preordained death of George Sr. when Sheldon was around 13 years old. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage doesn’t have any such limitations.
All viewers know is that Sheldon’s brother and his wife are divorced by The Big Bang Theory season 11, episode 23, “The Sibling Realignment.” As such, Mandy and Georgie’s marriage could last for five, ten, or fifteen seasons before catching up with the original series timeline. Despite this, I’m convinced Georgie and Mandy should break up in season 2.
Georgie & Mandy’s Divorce Would Make First Marriage Season 2 Truly Unpredictable
The Young Sheldon Spinoff’s Next Steps Would No Longer Be Easily Guessed
As such, the sooner the show pulls off the bandage, the better. Not only that, but this would also make the plot of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2 less predictable. Currently, all roads lead to “Oh, so that’s why they broke up.”
This is precisely what ruined later seasons of How I Met Your Mother, where the question of “Are they ever going to get around to meeting the mother?!” eventually overtook the show’s actual action as the audience’s biggest concern. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage can avoid this fate with this big, genuinely surprising season 2 twist.
If the show broke up its main couple in season 2, then suddenly, viewers would have no idea where it was going. Thus, CBS’s Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage could become a series that genuinely surprised viewers, rather than a show with a predetermined ending like its predecessor, Young Sheldon.
