The trailer for the upcoming fourth season of CBS’ Fire Country teases the aftermath of the series’ emotional Season 3 finale, which, as Deadline reported exclusively, marked the exits as series regulars of original cast members Stephanie Arcila and Billy Burke. The promo confirms that Burke’s battalion chief Vince died in the memory care building fire where he, along with his wife, Cal Fire Division Chief Sharon (Diane Farr), and his father, retired battalion chief Walter Leone (Jeff Fahey), were trapped with the roof collapsing on them.
“I will spend the rest of my career protecting my father’s town, my father’s station, my father’s mission,” Bode (Max Thieriot) says in his speech at Vince’s funeral.
The trailer, which you can watch above, teases an anticipated clash between Bode and his captain and friend Jake (Jordan Calloway) over who should succeed Vince as battalion chief, something Bode calls his “birthright.”
That may be a moot point because the team has a bigger issue on their hands — Sharon informs them that Station 42 “is suspended from active duty effective immediately.”
Elsewhere, the trailer introduces Shawn Hatosy who just won an Emmy for The Pitt; he will play a recurring character who comes to Station 42 to help them deal with the loss of their chief. It also has Audrey (Leven Rambin) back on the team after she was last seen being taken away for shooting Gabriela’s stalker in the Season 3 finale, indicating that the situation has been sorted out.
And it features a heart-to-heart for Gabriela (Arcila) and Bode who didn’t get to say goodbye in the Season 3 finale.
“I still love you,” she tells him.
In the finale postmortem with Deadline, the Fire Country executive producers Tony Phelan, Joan Rater and Tia Napolitano stressed that this was not the last we had seen of Gabriela.
“We hope to see her back very soon, to give her a proper not goodbye, but see you later,” showrunner Napolitano said at the time. “In the epic love story of Bode and Gabriela, sometimes it’s very useful for a longing, to miss her, to miss them, to really crave seeing them on screen together, whatever they mean to each other. It’s part of long-arc, character-driven storytelling. We love her, and we’re all excited to see her on screen again.”
Season 4 of Fire Country premieres, Friday, October 17 at 8 PM on CBS and Paramount+. It will return to its regular 9 PM time slot the following Friday. Fire Country, from CBS Studios, is executive produced by Phelan, Rater, Napolitano, Thieriot, Bill Purple and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for JBTV.
