Fire Country was the introduction to the fictional town of Edgewater, where the show is set.
However, the series only depicted one side of the town due to the nature of the story. However, we all know that nothing is one single thing, and Edgewater, like anything else, is multifaceted.
In Sheriff Country, we take a look at another side – a darker and grittier side – that we’ve never seen before. And based on the new trailer, CBS might have a winner.
We speculated in one of our many opinion pieces that Sheriff Country would outshine its predecessor, and the trailer confirms the truth of that assessment.
The drama series stars Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox, a no-nonsense sheriff from Edgewater. Fans of the mothership know she’s related to Sharon and Bode.
The trailer promises a much different tone from what we’re used to. We get a good view of the beautiful town with its well-maintained streets and lush vegetation.
However, a criminal underbelly lurks, and these crimes are unique to small towns.
The trailer reveals that Mickey has recently become sheriff, despite having been in the department for 20 years. Effectively, most people don’t trust her as sheriff, and some go to the lengths of shooting at her when she shows up at some guy’s door.
Sheriff Mickey Fox Reporting for Duty
Clearly, this is small-town politics, where people have all the time in the world to fabricate stories about their neighbors without complete information.
The nature of relationships in small towns means that everything must be approached cautiously because the blowback could be swift and destabilizing.
Life at home is not easy for Mickey. She divorced and has a daughter, Sky, who never lets her catch a break.
And then there’s Wes, her father, who likes playing with the sharp teeth of the law despite having a daughter for a sheriff. Wes is still growing marijuana, but given that it’s legal in the state, there’s nothing Mickey can do about it.
And still, she needs him. She needs someone to help keep an eye on Sky and her new boyfriend.
Meanwhile, something is simmering in Edgewater as the town records an uptick in burglaries. Someone is trying to scare homeowners into selling.
The question becomes: Is Mickey’s closeness to the town an asset or a liability?
But no amount of doubts from outsiders will stop Mickey from executing her duties.
She will find a missing girl, stop two grieving brothers from killing each other, solve a murder, and help people from going off a cliff.
Sure, her life is messy with her daughter, ex-husband, and boyfriend – who she works with – but that doesn’t stop her from being a good protector of Edgewater.
“I’m a damn good sheriff,” she says with firm conviction that gives me chills. I want to live in her town.
