Taylor Sheridan’s New Crime Series Could Break a Major Yellowstone Record md06

One of Yellowstone’s most notable records could be broken by Taylor Sheridan’s crime shows in the coming years. Taylor Sheridan has worked in the film industry for decades, but most of his fans became familiar with his work due to the release of Yellowstone on the Paramount Network. Yellowstone’s five seasons were massively popular.

With Yellowstone’s ending in 2024, Sheridan is branching out to a number of different projects. This includes various Yellowstone spinoffs, as well as new shows like Landman and other ongoing titles like Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown.

Yellowstone, which is widely considered the opus of Taylor Sheridan’s TV filmography, had five seasons and is his longest-running title to date. Now, with Tulsa King’s season 4 renewal announced ahead of season 3’s release and Mayor of Kingstown season 4 dropping later this year, both are catching up quickly.

Mayor of Kingstown is planned to conclude with season 5 (though it hasn’t been officially renewed), and Tulsa King could continue on for longer. With Tulsa King now having a spinoff in the works, it wouldn’t be surprising if it continued on for a few more seasons alongside NOLA King, which will star Samuel L. Jackson.

Mayor of Kingstown will tie Yellowstone’s record, but Tulsa King has the opportunity to surpass it. The original report regarding Tulsa King’s renewal also suggested that the series “could go to six seasons,” which would make Tulsa King the king of Taylor Sheridan’s shows, at least in terms of longevity.

With the number of Yellowstone spinoffs still in the works, it will be extremely difficult for any other Sheridan TV shows and their spinoffs to have the longevity and scale like Yellowstone does. Paramount is actively trying to expand on Taylor Sheridan’s projects and develop others like it (such as Mobland), but Yellowstone will likely remain the studio’s cornerstone.

Yellowstone’s first two spinoff shows, 1883 and 1923, were both rather brief, with 1 and 2 seasons, respectively. Future shows, however, are being developed with longer-term plans in mind. The MadisonDutton Ranch, and Y: Marshals all have the potential to be long-term investments for Paramount+, building on the world in different ways.

Other shows Taylor Sheridan is involved with perform well on Paramount+, but Yellowstone is one of the biggest shows of the 21st century. This is Paramount’s flagship title, and they’ve put a ton of stock into Sheridan’s vision and long-term goals for the franchise.
