Landman season 2 will return on November 16, marking an impressive one-year turnaround from its season 1 premiere. Following season 1’s major death and the resulting power shifts, Landman season 2’s trailer has already hinted at Cami’s (Demi Moore) rise to power, setting up a sophomore installment that can rival all of Sheridan’s upcoming Yellowstone shows.
Why Landman Season 2 Is More Exciting Than The Next 3 Yellowstone Shows
It is easy to see why Yellowstone and its spinoff shows have been huge hits so far. The characters are compelling and often ruthless, and the rugged landscape and intense plot easily grab audiences’ attention. What’s more, the prequels have each explored the history of the Dutton family in a way that fascinatingly fleshed out the overall story.
While the franchise’s former success ensures that Sheridan’s upcoming sequels, including The Dutton Ranch, CBS’ Kayce spinoff Y: Marshals, and The Madison, will likely find the same strong audience, Landman has its own huge opportunity. Instead of building off something that is already established, Landman gets to build something new.
This means the show has a ton of room to grow, and audiences have no idea where the characters’ journeys will take them. While the new Yellowstone shows will, of course, tell new stories, audiences have already been watching Beth, Rip, and Kayce for five seasons, so it may feel more like a continuation than something truly unique.
I Hope Taylor Sheridan Doesn’t Expand & Dilute Landman
The new Yellowstone shows will have to find a way to differentiate themselves from feeling like season 6 of the beloved show. In contrast, Landman doesn’t need to be anything but itself. At the moment, its universe is singular and tells a cohesive story, which is ultimately better for both the series and viewers.
Without having to focus on different characters spread across different times or places within Landman‘s universe, the show is free to go all in on its dramatic, tense plots. The characters are imperfect, but compulsively watchable, and their questionable decisions leave viewers on the edge of their seats.
