Too Tired to Cook? Gordon Ramsay’s 10-Minute Steak Sandwich Is the Dinner Hack You Need md06

When you hear the name Gordon Ramsay, multiple dishes may come to mind, from his signature beef Wellington to sticky toffee pudding—or even the “perfect” breakfast sandwich. With 17 Michelin stars to his name and restaurants around the world, it makes sense that the celebrity chef calls his own recipes perfect. Plus, given the fact that his specialty is a pastry-crusted beef dish, I implicitly trust that he knows what he’s doing when it comes to red meat.

Luckily, Ramsay was kind enough to share one of his favorite steak recipes on his YouTube channel—and it’s safe to say that I’ll be making this dish as soon as possible.

How To Make Gordon Ramsay’s 10-Minute Steak Sandwich

While Ramsay’s Beef Wellington is iconic, this sandwich is a better way to channel his steak skills, as it’s a more affordable and approachable recipe. Rather than chilling overnight before multiple hours of careful prep and puff pastry-fueled stress, Ramsay’s steak sandwich, which he made in his YouTube series “Ramsay in 10,” is a different spin on beef that’s as beginner-friendly as it is delicious.

Plus, the meal comes together in just 10 minutes—or at least it should, according to the restaurateur and the countdown clock shown throughout the video.

The sandwich features steak layered between grilled bread, topped with portobello mushrooms and onions. It’s then finished with a tangy sauce made with mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Though the chef doesn’t provide explicit quantities for the ingredients in the video, Ramsay does use a bavette cut of steak, two small red onions, and portobello mushrooms on a ciabatta roll. He also uses two types of greens: watercress and mixed greens.

While heating the grill pan, Ramsay pours a healthy amount of olive oil on the bread before sprinkling it with a generous amount of salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Next, he places the bread oil-side down on the grill pan before setting a plate on top of the ciabatta to help it sear.

As the bread toasts, Ramsay seasons his steak with a heaping amount of salt and pepper. Once the bread is toasted and off the grill pan, Ramsay adds a little more olive oil to the pan along with the prepped steak before adding the portobello mushrooms (with the stems removed) and thick-cut onion rings to the grill pan.

While the meat and vegetables begin to cook, Ramsay preps the sauce—a glaze made from a combination of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce—before using a silicone brush to coat the steak and veggies. Once the steak is done, he pours Guinness directly onto the grill pan over the steak, mushrooms, and onions. Once the beer has burned off, he removes everything from the heat.

In the video, Ramsay says, “The secret behind a great steak sandwich is getting organized.” And that includes the meat, all of the toppings, and the second sauce, which he smears onto the bread and drizzles atop the steak. It’s a combination of a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, two teaspoons of mayo, and one teaspoon of Dijon mustard. After coating the ciabatta in sauce, Ramsay tops the bread with steak, the sautéed vegetables, bleu cheese, and a mix of the fresh greens—and yes, it looks absolutely delicious.

While Ramsay completes the meal in 10 minutes in the video, one recipe tester recently reported the sandwich taking nearly an hour to assemble. So, it’s probably not something that you’d make every night for dinner. However, if you’re craving a zhuzhed sandwich or a restaurant-quality meal in the comfort of your own kitchen, Gordon Ramsay’s steak sandwich might be the answer.
