The Challenge

Gordon explains tonight’s challenge alongside his fellow judges, Tiffany Derry and Joe Bastianich. The iconic “Keeping Up With Gordon” competition will have the chef-testants cooking Buckwheat-Crusted Duck Breast with Parsnip Purée, Sweet & Sour Endive, Pickled Daikon & Cherries, and a Port Wine Sauce. Throughout the high-stakes challenge, the duos must tag-team every five minutes, trading off at the stove as they race to keep up with Gordon’s precision and speed. In the end, the least successful duo will be eliminated from the competition.

hroughout the challenge, Jessica grows increasingly frustrated with Jesse, who’s barking instructions like a sideline coach at a football game. “This challenge is keeping up with Gordon, not keeping up with Jesse!” she snaps. “If I can’t hear Gordon, then we’re going home.”

Rachel and Julio appear to have the strongest communication skills, with Julio calmly tracking Gordon’s every move to ensure Rachel doesn’t miss a single instruction. Across the kitchen, however, Zach and Michelle seem completely frazzled and are barely communicating at all. “It’s like I’m driving a Formula One car and just trying not to crash,” Zach says — moments before accidentally smashing a glass bottle across his workstation.

Strangely quiet throughout the challenge were Tina and Aivan, who didn’t exactly make it look easy but managed to keep their stress levels in check. When time expired, every team recognized they’d made small mistakes — but which duo would be sent home just shy of the finale?

Elimination

After examining each dish, the judges revealed the three duos advancing to the grand finale in this order: Rachel & Julio, Jessica & Jesse, and Tina & Aivan.

That means Zach and Michelle, the married couple from Minneapolis, have been eliminated in fourth place. Unfortunately, Gordon called their presentation “clumsy” with “way too much garnish.” He also criticized the slightly overcooked duck and bland purée. Tiffany faulted the duo for drowning the plate in sauce, while Joe remarked that the dish looked more suited for a family-style restaurant than a Michelin-star fine dining establishment.

“This has been the experience of a lifetime,” Michelle said, fighting back tears. Zach added, “We’re going to have a lot of proud people back home — and we’re proud of ourselves.”
