Ahead of Donnie Wahlberg’s return as Danny Reagan in Boston Blue, the series that saw him first play the signature role is back on streaming charts. Wahlberg stars alongside Tom Selleck and Bridget Moynahan in Blue Bloods, the beloved police procedural that ran for 14 seasons between 2010 and 2024. Although the premiere of the first Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue, is right around the corner, the original series is still one of Paramount+’s most popular shows both in the U.S. and globally. The series also stars Will Estes and Len Cariou.
Blue Bloods was written and created for television by Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green, but over the many years it was on the air, plenty of notable television scribes came through the writers’ room to help pen the show — there are 44 writers who earned a credit for Boston Blue. Other than Burgess and Green, some notable writers on Blue Bloods include Kevin Riley, who also played David Fisher during an episode of the show. Van B. Nguyen (Love, Victor), Alli Solomon, Yasmine Cadet, and Siobhan Byrne O’Connor (Law & Order) also earned writing credits for their work on Blue Bloods.
Fans were devastated when Blue Bloods was canceled in the middle of its final season — the show had accumulated a massive fan base that had followed the series with devotion for years. Those same fans have refused to let go of the show, too, which is part of why it’s still hanging around on streaming charts more than six months after its finale. The announcement of Boston Blue helped to ease the pain brought on by Blue Bloods’ cancellation, but until the Reagan family is back in our lives later this year, fans will have to settle for rewatching Blue Bloods on Paramount+.
