Queen Charlotte star details ‘daunting’ sex scenes spin-off series

EXCLUSIVE: Actress India Amarteifio told media including Express.co.uk about filming the more steamy moments of the Netflix costume drama.

Much like its parent series Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is filled with many steamy sex scenes to get hot fans under the collar.

The six-part series on Netflix follows a young Queen Charlotte (played by India Amarteifio) and King George III (Corey Mylchreest) falling in love after being betrothed and marrying hours after meeting for the first time.

Queen Charlotte and King George III have a passionate if somewhat tumultuous romance as they get to know each other.

In reality, the royal couple had strong chemistry and ended up having 15 children together, which was reflected sexually in the multiple intimate moments between the pair in the fictional show.

Speaking to media including Express.co.uk, lead star Amarteifio addressed taking on these love scenes: “I felt very prepared. I think people think actors go into it not having a clue and you just like make it up on the spot but it’s very choreographed.

“We’ve got an amazing intimate coordination team. We just worked extensively to make sure that everything was to the T.”

Adding: “We knew exactly what we were doing, we were very well prepared.”

Many of the sex scenes featured in the episode Even Days in which Charlotte and George were doing their marital duty as they tried to conceive an heir at the behest of parliament and the king’s overbearing mother Princess Augusta (Michelle Fairley).

However, the sex scenes still provide nerve-wracking to shoot for the actress, who also counts credits in Sex Education and Line of Duty.

Amarteifio went on to say: “Absolutely, it was very daunting internally not externally. I put a lot of pressure on myself to just do it right.

“I got some really good advice from [co-star] Golda [Rosheuvel] which was to take the role as my own which was really kind of her.

“And from Tom [Verica] my director who just said he was there if I needed him and to really enjoy it and put your soul into but remember that you’re having a good time as well.”

Judging from the reaction to the show, which has now shot to the top of the Netflix charts globally, the cast and crew’s hard work paid off.

The show has brought in 148.28million viewing hours between May 1 and 7 after launching on May 4, Deadline reported.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story bumped both The Night Agent and The Diplomat after its premiere after the former became one of the biggest Netflix hits for the streamer of all time.

While reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes has given the series a 93 percent fresh rating from the critics and an 84 percent fresh rating among audiences.
