Fans of the steamy period drama are keen to know more about the actress behind the younger version of Lady Agatha Danbury.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story continues to maintain its position at the top of the Netflix charts globally after landing recently.
The six-part series serves as a prequel to the frothy costume drama Bridgerton and features new cast members portraying younger versions of some of the characters.
One newcomer is American actress Arsema Thomas, who takes on the role of Lady Agatha Danbury with British actress Adjoa Andoh as the older version.
How old is Bridgerton star Arsema Thomas?
In the series, Agatha discusses how she was betrothed to the wizened Lord Danbury (Cyril Nri) from the age of three and brought up to enjoy the things her future husband did.
Agatha also revealed she’d been a princess in Sierra Leone when she was married off as a teenager to Lord Danbury.
After Lord Danbury died, Agatha had something of an identity crisis as she tried to find herself and decided upon a life of widowhood rather than being tethered to another man again.
Many fans are now curious about actress Thomas’ real age. The star, who originally hails from Atlanta, Georgia, was born on June 19, 1994, which means she’s 29.
Thomas initially worked in the charity sector, specifically in activism and campaigning for global health equity.
Her work included serving as an associate of the United Nations Population Fund; working at a maternal health and child mobile clinic in Northern Kenya and the Kakumah Refugee Camp; and even cofounded a start-up called Mosaic, which helps refugees sell goods online to create income for themselves.
However, after tragedy struck with her father dying of Motor Neurone Disease, Thomas made the decision to pursue acting.
Thomas undertook courses at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Cours Florent in Paris, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.
She later trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) but put her studies on hold after being cast in Queen Charlotte.
Prior to landing Queen Charlotte, Thomas had appeared on screen in the film Redeeming Love and the TV series One Touch.
She had also appeared in LAMDA productions of Children of the Sun, Cymbeline, Romeo and Juliet and Queens of Sheba.
Speaking about starring in Queen Charlotte, Thomas said: “Yeah, I worked with Adjoa a lot and she was super helpful at the beginning. When I watched Bridgerton, I did a lot of watching her specifically, and so out of that came a natural fangirl attitude.
“We chatted about the character breakdown she created for Lady Danbury, because that changes a lot of the minute details, and understanding what and where a lot of the motifs that she uses come from — like the cane, and the hat.
“Because Adjoa puts so much thought into every single bit, I wanted to at least carry that with me; there has to be some cohesiveness, this has to be the same person.
“Even though 40 years creates a lot of difference in somebody, there has to be a foundation that runs through. Adjoa was really helpful with that.”
