Theresa Nist’s professional life may be a key reason why she and former Golden Bachelor lead Gerry Turner are parting ways.
Weeks leading up to Nist and Turner publicly announcing their plans to divorce, the former couple mentioned Nist’s job was making things complicated for them. “I still work, so that’s the hurdle,” Nist explained while making an appearance on the Dear Shandy podcast.
Nist also said she originally did plan to stay on the Golden Bachelor as long as she did. She had told her employer that she would only be gone for a couple of weeks.
“I honestly thought, ‘Oh, let me just get through the first night,’” Nist recalled. “And I stayed and I stayed and I stayed, and my employer was so good to me. And before I left, I kind of said, ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you.’”
Turns out, Nist kept her promise to her employer and remained long-distance from Turner due to her job obligations. “Until we decide on a place to really live, then I can really make a big decision to say, ‘Ok, we’re going to live in this place or that place,” the Golden Bachelor star explained. ‘And originally, it was South Carolina. We’re still not sure if that’s what it is.”
‘Golden Bachelor’ Gerry Turner Was Straight Forward With His Thoughts on Theresa Nist Continuing to Work
Meanwhile, Gerry Turner, who also appeared on the podcast alongside Nist, stated he would “go through phases” when it came to his thoughts on Nist working.
“I guess the difficult part is I went on to the show to find my partner,” the former Golden Bachelor lead said. “And I’ve been retired for a long time. I wanted fun [and] adventure. I wanted to go do [things].”
Turner then said, “So that is the crux of it, right now, is when does that start? I think the living arrangement is really secondary to the freedom of being able to go and enjoy life and do.”
Despite “the hurdle” still being there, Turner said he and Nist are “dealing” with it. “It’s just something we’re gonna have to find a way around,” he added.
The couple announced their engagement during the Golden Bachelor season’s Final Rose episode. They were married in early Jan. 2024 in a live wedding special.
However, just three months after exchanging vows, the couple announced on Good Morning America that they began the divorce process.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and we’ve looked closely at our situation – our living situation – and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s time for us to dissolve our marriage,” said Turner.
