Virgin River’s sixth season may still be waiting on an official release date, but Martin Henderson just gave fans a reason to smile.
On Saturday, the 49-year-old actor shared a behind-the-scenes selfie from a post-production studio, confirming he was working on the final edits. In the background, eagle-eyed fans spotted a brand-new shot of Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Henderson) looking happier than ever — a welcome sight after the couple’s turbulent season five journey.
“Back in the booth getting post-production just right for season 6 of #Virginriver,” Martin wrote, sparking an immediate fan frenzy in the comments. “Thank you for sharing and we are all so excited for it!” one follower replied. Another simply said: “Cannot wait!!”
A Season Full of Milestones
Season six has been in the works since February and wrapped filming in May, with Henderson revealing at the time:
“It takes an army! Final stretch of shooting Season 6 of #virginriverseries… makeup making me presentable for shooting the last few scenes. Been a huge season with a lot of what I hope makes you fans very happy.”
The upcoming season is especially meaningful for the star — it will mark his directorial debut for the series. While he hasn’t revealed details about the episode he’s helming, it’s clear this year’s storylines will be deeply personal.
What to Expect in Season Six
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline that the new season will open with another time jump, slimming down to 10 episodes and moving away from holiday specials.
One of the central arcs will follow Mel’s evolving relationship with her biological father, Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson).
“It just felt like an opportunity for a character who hasn’t had a living parent in her life,” Patrick explained. “Getting to see Mel with a living parent has been fun to explore, and also finding another way that she’s attached to this town — that she was always meant to come here for many reasons.”
Meanwhile, Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) will enter season six in a “healthy” place following the fallout from Hope’s season three car accident and Doc’s ongoing battle with macular degeneration — though Patrick warns there will still be challenges ahead.
With Virgin River season six now in post-production and the cast sharing regular teases, it won’t be long before fans get to return to their favorite small-town drama — and find out whether Mel and Jack’s smiles mean smooth sailing at last.
