‘Boston Loves You!’ Donnie Wahlberg Marks Major Career Milestone

Donnie Wahlberg Celebrates Huge Announcement: ‘Boston Loves You’ originally appeared on Parade.

Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg is never one to shy away from celebrating other actors’ and singers’ accomplishments. On August 11, he got wind that his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, is celebrating fellow hometown boy band New Edition, and he couldn’t wait to congratulate them.

“CONGRATS LEGENDS!” writes the New Kids on the Block star on his Instagram stories, adding, “Boston loves you and we salute you!”

The post Wahlberg reposted is from WBZ-TV in Boston, which announced on August 11 that Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is naming August 30 as “New Edition Day” in Beantown. The post also says that Boston will name a street after the “legendary R&B group.”

“New Edition formed in Roxbury in 1978. The group consists of members Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill,” reads the post. “The city will honor and celebrate the legendary R&B group with a community block party and street naming ceremony.”

“It is an honor to welcome home Roxbury natives New Edition to celebrate their global impact, from our communities here in Boston to the music industry worldwide,” Wu said in a statement. “This is a unique opportunity to bring Boston’s neighborhoods together in a celebration of culture, pride and community, and I encourage every community member to join us to celebrate New Edition’s tremendous impact.”

In his own statement, Brown added, “Boston is where it all began for us. This honor means the world to me.”
The street-naming ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. ET on August 30 at the corner of Ambrose and Albany streets in the Roxbury neighborhood. Dearborn Street is going to be renamed as “New Edition Way.” Afterward, there will be a community block party held at the Orchard Gardens Boys and Girls Club, according to CBS News. The party will have free food, activities for kids, and a special appearance by New Edition.

The R&B group burst onto the scene in 1983 with their debut album. They are the band behind such hits as “Candy Girl,” “Cool It Now,” “Mr. Telephone Man,” “Count Me Out,” “If It Isn’t Love” and “Can You Stand the Rain.”
