Blue Bloods’ Record Streaming Streak Fuels Excitement for Donnie Wahlberg’s Spinoff Launch

Blue Bloods fans are proving that the recently concluded series is still capable of dominating the streaming charts. After its recent cancellation, a new spinoff starring Donnie Wahlberg is set to take its place.

FlixPatrol reports that Blue Bloods is #10 on the Global Top 10 TV Shows on Paramount+ chart as of Aug. 6, 2025. The series is a currently charting in 13 countries with an average ranking of 7.9. Blue Bloods‘ final episode aired on Dec. 13, 2024, but months later, the show is still sticking around despite stiff competition from more recent series, including South Park (#1 on the chart), MobLand (#3) and Taylor Sheridan’s hit series, Yellowstone (#2), 1923 (#7) and Tulsa King (#8).

Blue Bloods ran for fourteen seasons and nearly 300 episodes during its run on CBS that began in 2010. It follows the fictional Reagan family, Irish Catholics living in New York City and working in law enforcement. Tom Selleck starred as NYC Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, with the rest of the show’s ensemble cast including Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes and Len Cariou.

Over the course of its run, Blue Bloods managed to maintain steady ratings for the first seven seasons, with average viewership numbers exceeding 10 million. It ranked as one of the highest-watched programs on television, although Season 8 and onward did see a ratings dip that eventually led to the show’s cancellation in 2024. Earlier this year, and only months after the series finale, CBS announced it had ordered Boston Blue, a spinoff set in a new city starring Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as Danny Reagan.

Boston Blue is currently scheduled to premiere on CBS on Oct. 17, 2025, inheriting its predecessor’s time slot. It will tell the story of Danny as he joins the Boston Police Department and is partnered with the force’s rising star (Sonequa Martin-Green). In addition to Wahlberg and Martin-Green, the rest of the main cast will include Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Maggie Lawson (Psych, Lethal Weapon), Gloria Reuben (ER), Marcus Scribner (Black-ish) and Mika Amonsen.

The New Blue Bloods Spinoff Leaves Hope for Cast Member Reprisals

With Boston Blue‘s release date getting closer, new details about the series have been emerging – including the revelation that one of the Regan family members was officially recast. Sean (Danny’s youngest son) is set to appear in Boston Blue as a main character, but Mika Amonson (Reacher) will now play the character, after Andrew Terraciano originated the role in Blue Bloods.

Wahlberg himself also teased that more of the Reagan family might be able to make appearances in Boston Blue in the future, although no cameo appearances from series stars like Tom Selleck have been confirmed at this time. “New York and Boston are really close. They’re not that far apart,” Wahlberg hinted. “You covered a lot of possible ways for people to drop in on us.”
