You Won’t Believe the Twists Awaiting Danny Reagan in Blue Bloods’ New Spinoff

Wahlberg was recently a guest on the Boston-based radio show Billy & Lisa in the Morning, where he divulged some new information about Boston Blue. “The first episode is going to blow people’s minds. I think people are going to be like, ‘Oh my god.’ Like there’s some twists and turns in the first episode, and then we’re going to continue that,” Wahlberg teased. “You know, we want to pay respect and honor Blue Bloods, but also you know there are then there are thousands and thousands of police families in America, and we want to tell some of those stories too, and we want to let Danny explore, you know, be a fish out of water.”

Announced in February 2025, Boston Blue, like its predecessor Blue Bloods, will center around a multi-generational family with ties to law enforcement. Only the Reagans won’t be the focus this time around; instead, it will be the Silvers, led by patriarch Reverend Peters, portrayed by Ernie Hudson. However, fans can still expect to see select members of the Reagan family in Boston Blue, beginning with Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan in the series premiere. Moynahan’s involvement in the Blue Bloods spinoff was revealed by Wahlberg in July 2025, with the actor set to appear as a special guest star in the series premiere before returning later in the season to lend her “incredible directing talents.”

Wahlberg also shared on Billy & Lisa in the Morning that more Reagans will pop up during the first season, adding, “And of course, you know, the family and Tom Selleck and the entire cast were you know, my friends, and we’re very close and so this is a new world. Of course, going to stay connected with the old characters, and they’ll be popping up from time to talk.”

At the time of writing, Moynahan is only the second Blue Bloods alumnus to return for Boston Blue, after Wahlberg, while Erin Reagan will be the third returning character, as Danny’s youngest son, Sean Reagan, will also be a series regular on the spinoff. However, Sean’s Blue Bloods portrayer, Andrew Terraciano, is not being brought back, reportedly due to Boston Blue wanting to take the character in a “new creative direction,” with Mika Amonsen having instead been cast in the role.

The rest of the main Boston Blue cast will be filled by members of the Silver family. Former Star Trek: Discovery lead Sonequa Martin-Green is set to co-lead the spinoff as Lena Silver, Reverend Peters’ granddaughter and a “rising star” in the Boston Police Department who is partnered with Danny Reagan following his transfer from the NYPD to the BPD, with Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, and Gloria Reuben starring as her stepsister, brother, and mother, respectively.
