‘NCIS: Origins’ Star Fuels Fan Theory About Lala’s Fate in New Instagram Post

NCIS: Origins Season 2 is currently in production, but no one knows what will happen to Lala (Mariel Molino) after the accident in the Season 1 finale. That hasn’t stopped fans from developing theories, and a recent post from series star Austin Stowell raises some eyebrows. Could Lala have survived the accident? Stowell and Molino recently attended Cinespia’s screening of Point Break, and in his Instagram stories, Stowell reshared a picture of them both with an interesting caption. “I know this much…she doesn’t die at the end of Point Break,” the text reads. While there is no confirmation about Lala’s fate, the caption is undoubtedly interesting.

Stowell has expressed mixed sentiments about the direction Lala’s story should take. “There’s obviously a world where [Lala dying] makes sense in that it would explain so much of why Gibbs is the way he is and why he will not talk about this with anyone,” he told TV Insider, then added,

“Selfishly, as an actor, I hope and pray that [Mariel] stays right where she is because she is so talented and, as talented as she is, she’s also a wonderful human being. We are incredibly blessed to have the family that we do here on set — all of these people here on the show have become so close to me. We have become friends, and I don’t want to lose anybody [even though] and I know that it makes great drama. But that’s how I feel.”

What’s the Status of ‘NCIS: Origins’ Season 2?

The show nabbed a second-season renewal after a well-received first season, and production is currently ongoing. The theory that Lala might survive was recently fueled by Molino when she shared a picture from the Paramount lot, hinting that she was back on set for an undetermined duration. Gina Lucita Monreal, co-showrunner with David J. North, remained tight-lipped when Screen Rant asked for a hint regarding Lala’s fate. “We need you to come back for season 2 and find out,” she said. “I’m not even going to tell David. Return for season 2, please, and find out the fate of Lala,” Lucita Monreal added.

NCIS: Origins returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, October 14, when CBS’ NCIS night begins. New episodes will air on the said night after a new episode of the flagship series at 8 p.m. ET, followed by NCIS: Sydney at 10 p.m. ET. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
