There’s been a lot of speculation about which cast members of Blue Bloods might make guest star appearances on the highly anticipated offshoot, Boston Blue. And today, CBS shared the answer.
Bridget Moynahan will make a special guest appearance and reprise her role as Erin Reagan, Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) sister, in the Friday, Oct. 17 premiere episode.
In breaking the news, Wahlberg posted on Instagram: “Reunited and if [sic] feels so good! So excited to have my dear friend, and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan, join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue! She’ll also be bringing her incredible directing talents to the show this season! More fun (and surprises) to come. 👀 Let’s go! 💙❤️”
In Boston Blue, Wahlberg reprises his role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan as he relocates to Boston for a position with the Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
As previously announced, Danny isn’t the only Reagan relocating to Boston. His youngest son Sean Reagan will also make the move “to start a new chapter as a Boston PD patrolman. Sean committed himself to pursue his family’s legacy but wanted to do so on his own terms, which meant joining a department outside of his hometown.”
That said, the role of Sean, which was played for 14 seasons by Andrew Terraciano, will now be played by Mika Amonsen. As mentioned by Wahlberg, Moynahan will also direct a Season 1 episode of Boston Blue, as she has done several times before on Blue Bloods.
In addition to Wahlberg, Green and Amoneen, Boston Blue stars Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters.
