Alison Sweeney is officially returning to Days of Our Lives, but fans should know it’ll be a short stay.
The longtime soap star, best known for playing Sami Brady, last popped up on the Peacock daytime drama in April. Viewers were surprised when Sami wasn’t present for John’s funeral episodes earlier this summer, especially given her close ties to Marlena and the rest of Salem.
In a new interview with Soaps.com, Alison explained why her character’s timing seemed off.
“They arranged for me to do it a week later, maybe two weeks later,” she shared. “I do come in and have scenes about John, but my timing was a little bit off after all of that.”
This week, Sami finally returns to Salem to reunite with Marlena in an emotional episode that will explore the aftermath of John’s death. Although she wasn’t there for her son’s trial, Alison says her new scenes still capture the reality of grief.
“Mourning doesn’t always happen [when] everyone gets together on one day,” she explained. “Sometimes, that’s an ongoing thing. Having Sami come back and share those moments with Marlena allows the writers to tell the story and gives Sami the opportunity to honor John. I’m really glad that I got to be a part of it in the way that I was — it felt very real.”
While this appearance will only last for a single episode, fans won’t have to wait too long for more Sami: she’ll be back again in November for another visit.
