Yellowstone Shock: Why Today Marks a Heartbreaking Turn for Fans

Yellowstone fans have a hard pill to swallow today as they get the news about Beth and Rip’s spinoff show. Taylor Sheridan’s original neo-Western series concluded when Yellowstone season 5, part 2 ended last December. That said, vital Yellowstone characters from season 5 will continue their stories in several upcoming spinoffs

However, the most anticipated spinoff is the series centering on Beth and Rip, with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising the Yellowstone power couple to lead the show. It looked like the spinoff would debut just a year after the original series ended, but fans will now be disappointed to know that they won’t be closing out the year with Beth and Rip.

Beth & Rip’s Yellowstone Spinoff Is Officially Delayed

Beth & Rip Won’t Be Returning In November 2025

According to Paramount’s Q2 earnings call, which lays out the studio’s plan for the rest of the year and beyond, the premiere of Beth and Rip’s Yellowstone spinoff was officially delayed until next year. The studio didn’t explain the adjustment, though the shift in the Yellowstone spinoff’s scheduling could be due to the recent merger between Skydance and Paramount, which is causing changes.

The timeline is a change of plans from when Beth and Rip’s Yellowstone spinoff release window was seemingly confirmed in Paramount’s Q1 earnings call, which indicated the show would come in November 2025. The change could also be a strategy to spread out Sheridan’s programming, though several of his projects seem to be experiencing holdups.

Taylor Sheridan’s Landman Will Also Come Later Than Expected

Landman Season 2 Has Moved From November To December

The continuation, now reportedly titled The Dutton Ranch after some confusion about Beth and Rip’s Yellowstone spinoff title, isn’t the only Taylor Sheridan show experiencing reported delays. Paramount also reported that Landman season 2 will arrive later than expected, even though the upcoming season of Billy Bob Thornton’s Texas oil drama was initially slated to premiere alongside the Yellowstone show in November.

Granted, Landman’s delay is far less significant than Beth and Rip’s show. Landman season 2 has been filming in West Texas and Oklahoma this summer, so the show is officially in production. It will reportedly only be stalled by a month, premiering its sophomore outing in December. In contrast, there’s no word about when Beth and Rip’s series will start filming.

Beth & Rip’s Spinoff Show Can Still Turn Around Relatively Quickly

Beth & Rip’s Spinoff Show Is Still Expected In 2026

It would have been great to see Beth and Rip’s spinoff story less than a year after their story in the original show concluded in December. That said, The Dutton Ranch premiering sometime in 2026 would still be a reasonable turnaround, especially since it’s a streaming show. Considering it’s a new series entirely, waiting a little longer makes sense.

There are several Yellowstone spinoffs in the works: The Dutton Ranch, CBS’ Y: Marshals with Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), and The Madison starring Michelle Pfeiffer. Ideally, all three shows would finally premiere in 2026. However, Sheridan’s projects have experienced divisive holdups in the past, but hopefully, we won’t see too many delays in Beth and Rip’s continuation.

Yellowstone is a neo-Western drama series created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, centered on the Dutton family and their fight to protect the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch from various adversaries, including land developers and nearby reservations. Premiering in 2018 on Paramount Network, the show has been praised for its depiction of power struggles, family loyalty, and rural conflicts. It has expanded into a franchise with spin-offs such as 1883 and 1923, and an upcoming sequel series is in development.
