Ratings Strong, Budget Tighter
Despite the One Chicago franchise drawing over 45 million viewers in 2024–2025, NBC made cost-saving moves for Season 14. Insiders say the cast reductions are a result of reallocation rather than declining popularity.
Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett’s exits were described as amicable but necessary. Kyri’s portrayal of Ritter gave the show important social relevance, especially regarding LGBTQ+ representation in uniformed service. Lockett’s Carver brought unpredictable energy and tension to the firehouse.
What’s Next for the Series
With fewer characters, Chicago Fire may find room to deepen existing relationships. Fans can expect more time with Cruz, Kidd, and Violet. A new character—played by Brandon Larracuente—will be introduced, rumored to be a rookie with a hidden past.
Season 14 also begins with a time jump—a strategic move that allows the writers to reset character arcs and pick up with new dynamics already in place.
