Despite only garnering a paltry 50% Rotten Tomatoes critic score, and an even less impressive 45% audience score, Fire Country season 1 did good business for CBS and the network quickly renewed it for seasons 2 and 3. As is the case with many shows like Fire Country, it has the potential to run for several seasons and even leaves many openings for spinoffs set within the same universe. That’s why, with Fire Country season 4 also happening, the series is being spun off into Sheriff Country soon.

Morena Baccarin’s Spinoff Gets The Green Light
After CBS introduced the Sheriff Mickey Fox character in Fire Country season 2, it was only a matter of time before the network’s plans for a spinoff came to fruition. In May 2024, CBS officially gave Sheriff Country a season order that will see it arrive as part of the 2025-2026 season. This news comes mere weeks after the announcement of Fire Country season 3, proving the show is already blossoming into a bona fide franchise after only a few years on the air.
The series took the next big step in January 2025 when it was announced that Sheriff Country had finally begun filming. Though a release date is not known yet, Sheriff Country will be part of CBS’ fall slate alongside Fire Country. Instead of being a midseason addition, the high-profile spinoff will fill one of the newly vacated slots left by the cancellation of S.W.A.T., FBI: International, and FBI: Most Wanted.
Morena Baccarin will headline the series as Sheriff Mickey, but she isn’t the only star attached thus far. Based on the comments of Diane Farr, it’s been confirmed that Mickey’s step-sister, Sharon, will appear in the spinoff, but the scope of her role is unknown. W. Earl Brown (Deadwood) is set to play Mickey’s father (and Sharon’s step-father) Wes, while Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs) will play Mickey’s ex-husband, Travis. Mickey and Travis share a daughter, but the role hasn’t been cast yet. Michele Weaver (Love Is) will play a young deputy named Cassidy.
CSI: Vegas alum Matt Lauria has been cast in the leading male role, and he’ll be playing the part of Deputy Boone. Boone is described as one of Sheriff Mickey’s most capable officers and her longtime partner in crime fighting. However, he also has is own style which sometimes clashes with his superior officer.
The confirmed cast of Sheriff Country includes:
Actor | Sheriff Country Role | |
---|---|---|
Morena Baccarin | Sheriff Mickey |
|
Matt Lauria | Boone |
|
Diane Farr | Sharon |

W. Earl Brown | Wes |

The spinoff will likely play out like a modern procedural, and see Sheriff Mickey face off against various elements threatening her peaceful corner of the world.
Judging by what has transpired during Sheriff Fox’s appearances on Fire Country, it’s easy to surmise what Sheriff Country will be about. Morena Baccarin stars as Edgewater Sheriff Mickey, an overprotective cop who will do anything to keep her town safe. The veteran actor will be the center of the story, and it could have a character-driven narrative much like Fire Country. The spinoff will likely play out like a modern procedural, and see Sheriff Mickey face off against various elements threatening her peaceful corner of the world.
It’s known that Mickey will have an ex-husband, Travis, and an as-yet-unnamed daughter who will have struggled with drug addiction. It seems as if Sheriff Mickey’s personal life will be on full display during the series, which could make for compelling viewing. Viewers have already seen her relationship with her step-sister, but the introduction of her father will also add a myriad of new wrinkles in Sheriff Country.
