The forthcoming episodes of the acclaimed Paramount Network series are scheduled to commence filming later this year. However, Hauser hints at the possibility of the characters portrayed by himself and Kelly Reilly extending their presence beyond the conclusion of the show’s fifth season. It is presumed that they may feature in Paramount+’s proposed Yellowstone spinoff for 2024 (working title).
“I’m currently fully focused on bringing Yellowstone to a satisfying conclusion,” Hauser recently shared with Country Living. “We’ll have to wait and see what unfolds. Nevertheless, I am aware of some upcoming projects in Taylor’s pipeline involving Kelly Reilly, myself, and several other cast members. I’m eager to see the creative direction he takes. At present, our priority is to wrap up the show on a high note and deliver our best work.”
Reilly also appeared to subtly suggest the possibility of her continued involvement in an interview conducted a month ago. “My main focus right now is ensuring that [the main show] concludes with the utmost care, passion, and dedication. That’s where my energy is directed. As for what lies beyond that? Well, there have been discussions, but it’s important not to believe everything you hear. We’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t have a definitive answer at this moment,” she explained.
Previously, Yellowstone showrunner Sheridan seemed adamant about not incorporating any current cast members into the planned spinoff. However, according to a recent report from the media newsletter Puck, Sheridan has had a change of heart. It’s rumored that he’s considering Hauser and Reilly, among others, for roles in the new series. While Matthew McConaughey was in discussions for a lead role in the drama, no agreement was finalized.
Upon confirming the conclusion of Yellowstone, Paramount Network announced plans for 2024 as the inaugural Yellowstone sequel. This present-day narrative, set after the events of Yellowstone, will continue to explore the Dutton family legacy with new characters and locations, alongside some familiar faces. Additionally, the network revealed another prequel titled 1944, following in the footsteps of limited series 1883 and the renewed 1923, which is slated for a second season.
Regarding whether Kevin Costner will make an appearance in the final episodes of Yellowstone, the actor has expressed his desire to return to conclude John Dutton’s story. However, there’s no confirmation yet on whether this will materialize. “I’d like to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to,” Costner stated. “I thought I was going to make seven [seasons], but right now we’re at five. So how it works out—I hope it does—but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with it, I’d love to do it,” he mentioned in a recent interview.
While it was anticipated that Yellowstone would have resumed production on its final season by now for a planned fall premiere, no filming date has been announced yet. Additionally, the exact number of episodes for the final season remains unclear. “If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10,” Sheridan stated previously. “It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”
