‘Elsbeth’ Assembles Its Dream Team: Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson Join CBS Spinoff

The quirky legal eagle from The Good Wife is back—and she’s bringing some serious star power with her. CBS’s upcoming spinoff Elsbeth has just added two major names to its cast: The Wire alum Wendell Pierce and The Arrangement star Carra Patterson.

Set in New York City, Elsbeth stars Carrie Preston reprising her Emmy-winning role as Elsbeth Tascioni, the brilliant, eccentric attorney fans came to love on The Good Wife and The Good Fight. This time around, Elsbeth is teaming up with the NYPD to solve crimes using her unique observational skills and offbeat charm.

Pierce will portray Captain Wagner, a magnetic and seasoned NYPD leader who commands every room with presence and experience. Patterson joins as Officer Kaya Blanke, a grounded, principled officer whose talents have long been underappreciated by her higher-ups.

The show comes from acclaimed creators Robert and Michelle King, who originally introduced Elsbeth in The Good Wife. The couple is returning to write and produce the pilot, with Robert King also directing. Longtime collaborator Liz Glotzer will executive produce as well.

“Michelle and I wanted to work with Carrie again, and loved the character of Elsbeth,” Robert King shared on social media. “She’s sort of a modern-day Sherlock Holmes and Columbo.”

With filming underway and the 2023–24 season in sight, Elsbeth is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing and stylish new shows on CBS. If the pilot hits the right notes, we’re in for a wildly entertaining ride through New York’s toughest cases—led by one of TV’s most delightfully unpredictable minds.
