Boston Blue filming is officially underway, and with it comes news of a surprising Reagan recasting.
As we all know, Boston Blue is the new Blue Bloods spin-off coming to CBS this fall. In the series, Donnie Wahlberg will be reprising his role as Detective Danny Reagan as he navigates relocating to New England. Who will be joining him from the original cast, however, has largely remained a mystery—until now. On Friday, July 11, news broke that Danny’s youngest son, Sean Reagan, will be part of the Boston Blue storyline. He won’t, however, be played by Andrew Terraciano, the actor who fulfilled the role for 14 years.
According to PEOPLE, Mika Amonsen has been cast as Sean for the Boston Blue spin-off. In the new series, Sean will be a patrolman for the Boston police department, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. This news begs an important question, though. Sean was still in high school when Blue Bloods came to a close. Does this news mean Boston Blue is set a few years in the future, or is Sean graduating and going directly into the force? Only time will tell.
While some fans are disappointed by Sean’s recasting, most can focus on just one thing: a Danny Reagan storyline continuation. “I can’t believe they recast [Sean]. That shocked me, and I think it’s terrible that the kid who had been playing the part since he was a little boy,” one fan wrote. “[It’s] not the first show to recast someone, so why is Blue Bloods any different?” someone else responded. “Danny Reagan is back,” another fan exclaimed. “Red rover, red rover, let Jamie come over,” someone else chimed in.
Boston Blue is set to premiere on Friday, October 17, 2025, taking over the Blue Bloods 10 p.m. ET time slot.
