Recently, Jermaine Rivers jumped on X (Twitter) to vent about the negativity he’s been seeing from online soap fans. “I’m convinced that most, not all, of today’s so-called soap fans are far removed from the sweet old ladies who watched it back in the 70s, 80s, and ’90s,” he posted.
He said: “The internet has turned some fans into STRAIGHT SAVAGES who tune in just to complain. What happened to watching soaps for the love of it?” He asked: “Why are y’all so mad, hateful, and triggered for?” Some fans backed Rivers, agreeing that the hate had gone too far. And he kept the conversation going, reminding everyone how hard soap actors, writers, and crew work.
But when one fan tried to give a different perspective, saying that criticism is fair when the show slips, Rivers fired back, saying people getting triggered by soap storylines probably have some deeper personal stuff going on. He said: “It’s unhealed trauma and people shouldn’t blame fictional characters for their emotional reactions.”
