The Blue Bloods universe is expanding and it’s taking fans on a brand-new ride through the streets of Boston. CBS has officially announced Boston Blue, a high-stakes spinoff that marks the return of Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan, this time trading the NYPD for the Boston Police Department.
According to Deadline, the new series stays true to the Reagan family legacy while breaking fresh ground in both tone and location. Boston Blue promises a grittier, emotionally charged take on law enforcement, set against the backdrop of a city known for its raw authenticity. Production is set to begin this fall.
New City, New Faces, Same Reagan Fire
As confirmed by US Magazine, Boston Blue introduces an entirely new supporting cast—starting with Sonequa Martin-Green as Detective Lena Silver, a bold and brilliant cop with deep Boston roots. Originally introduced as Lena Peters, her character’s storyline has been retooled to fit the powerful Silver family at the heart of the show’s tension.
And in one of the biggest shakeups, Mika Amonsen takes over the role of Sean Reagan, Danny’s youngest son, replacing Andrew Terraciano after 14 seasons. Sean is now all grown up and walking the beat in Boston.
What Is Boston Blue All About?
The series follows Danny Reagan’s dramatic relocation from New York to Boston, where he joins a department filled with family politics, legacy pressure, and unfamiliar challenges. Teaming up with Lena Silver, Danny must navigate a system where power and loyalty don’t always go hand-in-hand.
At the heart of Boston Blue, though, is something deeply personal: Danny’s evolving relationship with his now-adult son, Sean, as they work side-by-side in a new city. Expect internal conflict, emotional depth, and the kind of storytelling that made Blue Bloods a fan favorite.
