Are Fan-Favorite Characters Returning to P.D.? The Comeback Rumors Heating Up

Could Antonio Dawson walk through the doors of Intelligence again?

In a recent interview, Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan dropped a tantalizing hint: several former key characters may return in future seasons. And fans are buzzing with theories.

Topping the list is Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda), last seen in Season 6. His exit—following an addiction arc and near-fatal overdose—was abrupt. But Sigan now admits, “We never closed that door.”

Dawson, once Voight’s trusted right hand, could offer a unique mirror to the current fractured team. With Voight spiraling and Intelligence spread thin, bringing back a familiar face with a redemption arc would be a powerful move.

Then there’s Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), who left earlier in Season 12 for an off-the-books assignment overseas. Her emotional goodbye to Halstead hinted that she’d return—but when?

“I think fans haven’t seen the last of her,” Sigan teased. “She still has unfinished business.”

Reddit forums erupted. Some fans theorized a massive reunion episode where Upton, Dawson, and even Roman return in different capacities. “Make it like Avengers: Endgame but in patrol uniforms,” one user joked.

Why now?

According to insiders, the show is heading into a season of reckoning. With Voight’s authority weakening and trust issues plaguing the unit, familiar faces might be exactly what’s needed to stabilize the narrative—and stir drama.

Jon Seda has remained cryptic in interviews, refusing to confirm or deny involvement. Spiridakos, too, hasn’t ruled out a return.

The seeds are planted. And if Chicago P.D. wants to blow minds in Season 13, a long-awaited reunion could be the emotional punch fans crave.
