Not every scene in Fifty Shades was steamy and serious. In fact, one scene took over three dozen takes—because Dakota Johnson couldn’t stop laughing.
It was a candlelit bedroom scene in Fifty Shades Freed. Dornan was supposed to recite a soft, sensual monologue while blindfolding Ana. But on the first take, he mispronounced a word—“elegance” came out as “elephants.” Johnson burst into laughter.
Once broken, she couldn’t recover. Every time Dornan reached for the blindfold, Johnson cracked up. At one point, she fell off the bed. “I was crying from laughter,” she said in an interview. “It was the least sexy thing ever.”
Crew members began keeping a tally. By take 28, Dornan was laughing too. “We looked like idiots,” he admitted. The director eventually dimmed the lights to make it less awkward.
Take 37 made the cut. Somehow, it worked. But fans don’t realize that what they saw was born from complete chaos. The most sensual moment? It nearly didn’t happen at all.
