Archie Bunker Breaks the Internet: You Won’t Believe What He Did on Facebook!

In what may be the boldest creative pivot since the show’s revival, this week’s new All in the Family episode throws Archie Bunker headfirst into the digital age. And as you’d expect, chaos (and comedy) ensues.

Old-School Man, New-School Problems

The plot kicks off when Gloria buys Archie a smartphone for his birthday. “It’s time you joined the modern world,” she says. Within minutes, Archie accidentally posts his banking password on Facebook, thinks the “search” bar is a person, and starts a public fight in the comments of a political meme.

Archie Bunker becomes the perfect fish out of water — yelling at Siri, trying to mute video ads that don’t exist, and blaming “the Russians” for deleting his solitaire app.

Mike Tries (and Fails) to Teach Him

Mike, ever the liberal voice of reason, tries to teach Archie the basics of online etiquette — only to be blocked by Archie “on purpose.” The back-and-forth between them is electric, sharp, and funny, but also full of heart.

“I don’t need no internet telling me what to think,” Archie shouts.
“You didn’t need books either,” Mike replies. “But here we are.”

Emotional Undercurrent: Archie’s Loneliness

In the middle of all the laughs, there’s an unexpected gut punch: Archie signs up for Facebook not to argue — but because he misses Edith. He searches for her name. He scrolls. Nothing comes. The internet, for all its vastness, has nothing for a man looking for a ghost.

This episode works not just because it’s funny — but because it respects its characters, even in their flaws. Archie doesn’t learn everything by the end. But he does learn how to “like” a photo from Gloria’s family. And that, somehow, feels like a win.
