During a fan party celebrating the band’s Las Vegas residency, Donnie Wahlberg shared details of his new CBS series.
As Boston Blue gets closer to becoming a reality, Donnie Wahlberg shared some exciting updates about the Blue Bloods spinoff. He spilled new details about the new CBS series during a fan party celebrating New Kids on the Block’s Las Vegas residency.
In June, Wahlberg announced The Official Right Stuff NKOTB Residency After Party in Las Vegas, a fan event that occurs after each of the band’s shows. On July 5, the entertainer revealed he’s gearing up to film Boston Blue as the residency’s current leg ends.
A fan video from the event showed Wahlberg at the after-party, interacting with fans. He revealed that he sustained a leg injury while performing and said he needed to rest as much as he could, as filming was set to begin on Boston Blue beginning July 7.
“I gotta start filming a TV show on Monday,” the actor and singer explained to the audience. “You know, this is what we’re going to be doing on Fridays until we get back here in November. Let’s go!”
Wahlberg returns to television in the role of Danny Reagan, the character he portrayed for 14 seasons on Blue Bloods, in Boston Blue. In the new series, the character transfers from the NYPD to join the Boston Police Department.
Boston Blue also stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Detective Lena Silver, Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, and Maggie Lawson as Superintendent Sarah Silver, per PEOPLE. Though the setting changes, the actor claims that the Reagan family’s legacy will remain integral to the show.
Wahlberg previously stated he’s determined to bring at least one of his former Blue Bloods co-stars into the new series. He’s reportedly urging the series creators to find a way to write Tom Selleck into the new series. Selleck played Frank Reagan, Danny’s father, on Blue Bloods.
Closer Weekly reports, “Donnie wants to do this for him. Not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because he loves working with Tom.”
