The fall TV season might be quite a distance away, but updates about new seasons of returning drama shows keep streaming in. After a groundbreaking Season 8, 9-1-1 will return for another season on ABC. According to series star Jennifer Love Hewitt, viewers can rest easy knowing that everything is progressing well. She recently spoke with Screen Rant while promoting her new film, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and shared that she, along with the crew, is preparing to begin production for 9-1-1 Season 9. “Oh my gosh—in a couple weeks,” the actress said when asked if she knew when production was set to begin. Love Hewitt added:
While she didn’t provide a definitive date for when the season enters production, Love Hewitt’s comments hint at an imminent production start, possibly sometime in mid-to-late July. Her remarks to ScreenRant also hint at more of the same for her character, Maddie Han, who experienced significant developments in Season 8. Apart from helping save lives as the main dispatcher, Maddie also dealt with a lot of trauma after being kidnapped and having her throat slit. She managed to save herself, but the PTSD from that ordeal and the physical scars still live on. 9-1-1 is known for putting its characters through the wringer, so when Love Hewitt teases “different trauma,” it is going to happen.
What Is Jennifer Love Hewitt Working On Besides ‘9-1-1?’
The actress is back on the big screen in another sequel to her hit 90s slasher film, I Know What You Did Last Summer. She reprises her character, Julie, from the uber-popular slasher franchise. “She’s very different. I think you’ll see shades of that girl because I want those to be in there, but she’s lived in,” Love Hewitt told Extra about where the character is all these years later. “She’s in her 40s. She’s carried this a long time. I think she’s figured out how to deal. She’s a professor in sort of the mind and trauma and PTSD field. So, I think she’s figured out a way to put herself in a position in her life so she can deal every day with what happened to her in her teens. She’s a little edgier. She’s funny,” she added.
Additionally, Love Hewitt is set to star in and direct The Holiday Junkie for Lifetime. She co-stars in the Christmas-themed film alongside her husband and 9-1-1 Season 2 costar, Brian Hallisay. “To be able to direct and be in this movie with my husband is such a special opportunity. And to be back home with Lifetime feels as right as Christmas magic!” the actress said, expressing excitement for the film.
