Chicago Fire is gearing up for its explosive return this fall with Season 14—and a fresh face is joining the ranks at Firehouse 51.
Brandon Larracuente, formerly a star of Dick Wolf’s short-lived Prime Video series On Call, has officially signed on as a series regular for the upcoming season of the hit NBC drama. While details about his character are still under wraps, Deadline confirms that he will play a key member of Firehouse 51, stepping in during a time of major cast transitions.
A New Chapter After On Call
Larracuente’s casting comes on the heels of On Call’s cancellation in May, just months after it debuted. Despite a promising cast—including Pretty Little Liars alum Troian Bellisario and Full House’s Lori Loughlin—the eight-episode series was axed by Prime Video after one season. Although attempts were made to find the show a new home, no deal has materialized yet.
Fortunately, Larracuente didn’t have to wait long for his next big role. Joining Chicago Fire not only keeps him within Dick Wolf’s ever-expanding television universe but places him front and center in one of NBC’s most enduring franchises.
Big Changes at Firehouse 51
Larracuente’s arrival comes as Chicago Fire undergoes a significant cast shake-up. Fan favorites Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) are set to exit in Season 14, leaving key vacancies on the firehouse team. His character is expected to help fill that void, potentially teaming up with Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) on Truck 81 or finding a new place amid shifting team dynamics.
Season 13 ended with some unexpected moves, including a surprise pregnancy reveal for Stella and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), and a major leadership change involving Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) stepping aside to let Mouch (Christian Stolte) become lieutenant on Engine 51.
One Chicago’s Future Is Secure
Fans of the One Chicago franchise can breathe easy—NBC has renewed Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. for the upcoming television season. Major cast members across all three shows, including Taylor Kinney, Miranda Rae Mayo, Jason Beghe, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Oliver Platt, have signed new deals to stay onboard. While the network is implementing cost-saving measures (including cast absences in select episodes), all three shows will return with full 21-episode seasons.
Ratings Still on Fire
Despite changes, the One Chicago universe remains a powerhouse for NBC. The franchise has drawn nearly 46 million viewers across NBC and Peacock this season alone, with streaming numbers rising year-over-year—a testament to the show’s enduring popularity.
Chicago Fire’s Season 13 finale aired on May 21 and left fans with plenty to ponder, including Stella and Severide’s surprising pregnancy development. With Brandon Larracuente now entering the mix and a wave of change sweeping through Firehouse 51, Season 14 promises to be one of the most unpredictable—and emotional—chapters yet.
