CSI: Vegas Star Matt Lauria Joins Fire Country Spinoff ‘Sheriff Country’

Matt Lauria has officially joined the cast of Sheriff Country, CBS’s highly anticipated spinoff of its hit drama Fire Country. He will star alongside previously announced lead Morena Baccarin, who reprises her role as Sheriff Mickey Fox.

🔍 Series Overview

Described as a crime drama with strong character focus, Sheriff Country centers on Mickey Fox, a straight-shooting sheriff in the small town of Edgewater. As the stepsister of Cal Fire Division Chief Sharon Leone (played by Fire Country’s Diane Farr), Mickey investigates local crimes while grappling with her past — including her ex-convict father (played by W. Earl Brown) and a mysterious incident involving her daughter.

🔸 Lauria’s Role

Lauria will portray Boone, Mickey’s longtime partner and a seasoned deputy with a markedly different background. Hailing from Oakland, Boone brings a contrasting — yet complementary — approach to law enforcement. He’s described as smart, tough, and highly capable, with a style that often challenges Mickey’s more intuitive methods.

🎬 Cast & Creative Team

In addition to Baccarin, Lauria joins previously announced cast members Christopher Gorham and Michele Weaver.

Sheriff Country was first introduced via a backdoor pilot in Fire Country Season 2, in the episode titled “Alert the Sheriff.” Baccarin has since reprised the role in the currently airing third season.

The series’ first episode will be written by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, from a story by Phelan, Rater, and Fire Country co-creator and star Max Thieriot. The trio will also serve as executive producers alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for Jerry Bruckheimer Television. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

🎭 Lauria’s Recent Work

Lauria recently appeared in CBS’s CSI: Vegas and Amazon’s Outer Range, both of which wrapped in 2024. His previous television credits include Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, Dickinson, and film roles in Shaft, Miss Bala, and 80 for Brady.

Sheriff Country is expected to debut later in 2025, expanding the Fire Country universe with a darker, crime-focused lens while staying rooted in the emotionally complex world of Edgewater.
