As Chicago Fire gears up for a new season filled with shakeups, NBC’s long-running hit is wasting no time in introducing fresh faces to Firehouse 51. The series has officially cast Brandon Larracuente (The Good Doctor, 13 Reasons Why) in a major new series regular role for Season 14, Variety confirms.
Larracuente’s exact character details remain under wraps, but signs point to him stepping in as one of the firehouse’s newest recruits — and possibly filling the void left by two big departures.
In a major shake-up announced before the Season 13 finale, it was revealed that Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) would not return for Season 14. While Carver’s potential exit was hinted at onscreen — applying for a job in Denver and sharing a final kiss with Violet — Ritter’s storyline ended without closure, leaving fans wondering how his departure will be handled.
With both Carver and Ritter gone, it’s no surprise that Chicago Fire is expanding the cast. And Larracuente, who recently worked with One Chicago creator Dick Wolf on the now-canceled Prime Video series On Call, seems like a perfect fit for the franchise.
Fans are especially eager to see whether Larracuente’s character will bring LGBTQ+ representation back to the main cast — a gap left by Ritter’s departure. If the writers go in that direction, viewers hope his character will receive deeper, more consistent development.
Production on Season 14 begins in July, meaning a first look at Larracuente’s firefighter debut could be coming very soon. And with Wolf Entertainment known for reuniting with its stars across shows, don’t be surprised if more casting updates — and familiar faces — are announced in the coming weeks.
