CBS’ upcoming Young Sheldon sequel series about Georgie and Mandy receives its title ahead of the series finale of the Big Bang Theory spinoff.
Ahead of Young Sheldon’s impending series finale, CBS has finally unveiled the official title for its upcoming spinoff series, which will center on Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s characters Georgie and Mandy Cooper. The young couple recently got married at the City Hall during Season 7, Episode 7, titled “A Proper Wedding and Skeletons in the Closet.”
Per CBS, Young Sheldon’s highly anticipated sequel series will now officially be titled Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The spinoff title is seemingly a callback to the final season of The Big Bang Theory, where adult Sheldon revealed that his brother had been married twice and divorced. It also hints at the titular couple’s challenging married life, as they deal with parenthood and adulthood. The new show is expected to debut this fall as part of CBS’s 2024-2025 Primetime Schedule.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is created and executive produced by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland, the creative team behind The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Production on the Young Sheldon spinoff is expected to begin in July. So far, Jordan and Osment are the only confirmed cast members for the spinoff. It’s unclear if some of the Young Sheldon characters will also be returning for the new show. According to Missy Cooper actor Raegan Revord, she would be willing to reprise her character again if given the chance. However, she did express interest in exploring other acting projects after being part of Young Sheldon for nearly a decade.
“I’ve said this a few times. But comedy, it’s very easy to be pigeonholed into. And so I do want to explore the options,” Revord said. “I’m the type of person that I can see myself acting in any type of genre: drama or sci fi, whatever. So I do want to explore the options and see what else is out there. But I love Missy dearly. She’s the first big character I’ve played, and I felt I fell in love with her right off the bat from the audition. And so I definitely would love to return to her at some point.”
Young Sheldon Cancellation Took Main Cast By Surprise
In a previous interview, Ghostbusters vet Annie Potts, who plays the role of Meemaw/ Constance in Young Sheldon, admitted that the Young Sheldon cast was blindsided by the network’s decision to end one of its top-ranking shows.
“This one was especially hard because I was completely unprepared,” Potts said. “I was shocked. I mean, the No. 1 show on network TV, No. 1 on Netflix. We’re, I think, all that people watch on TikTok besides a couple of recipes for pasta. It just seemed like such a stupid business move. Forgive me, but I don’t know. If a show is starting to drag or lag or have a lack of stories or whatever, then you kind of see it coming. We were totally ambushed by this. I was, anyway.”
