A Big Change In Scenery
The popular dramedy, created by Alexi Hawley, will at least temporarily be swapping its Los Angeles locations for a stint in Europe. It could be the case that the team, at least some of them, are headed down to Prague for a vacation. In a string of Instagram stories, Dewan posted that she’s visiting some of Prague’s historical locations and churches. But given that this is The Rookie, it may not be too long before The Rookie cast of characters gets drawn into trouble.
Coming after The Rookie season 7 ending, the big milestone for a network drama is also happening while the police procedural is breaking viewership records late in its run. The series is a solid performer when it comes to live ratings. But reports have indicated that it performs even better once viewership on Hulu is taken into account, recently breaking into Nielsen’s Top 10 list for streaming shows. This likely gives ABC a boost of confidence in allowing the writing and producing team to broaden the canvas.

A Change Of Pace Is Always Welcome
There will almost certainly be a bit of trouble ahead on The Rookie that turns the serene surroundings into something that’s a touch more chaotic. But it will be interesting, as well, to monitor how the procedural’s well-established shifts and adjusts with its new playing field. It is a sign, in any case, that nearly a decade into its run, the Nathan Fillion-led dramedy can still deliver a surprise or two.
