For the Season 7 finale of ABC’s procedural drama The Rookie, the show brings back one of its biggest villains. Oscar (Matthew Glave) has been antagonizing John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) for years and has been lying low since he broke out of prison in Season 6. “John and Harper (Mekia Cox) work together to catch Oscar; Angela (Alyssa Diaz) investigates a bank robbery; Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) learn to adapt to her new schedule, and Miles’ (Deric Augustine) first date takes an unexpected turn,” the logline for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 18, “The Good, The Bad, and The Oscar” teases. ABC released a sneak peek of the episode airing next Tuesday, May 13, previewing several arcs the season-ender will tackle, including Lucy and Tim’s situation, and Oscar’s comeback.
The moment of truth arrives for Tim as, finally, he and Lucy can try making their relationship work without the existing dynamics that made it impossible. But showrunner Alexi Hawley said nothing comes easy in the show. “I can never make things easy, right? But I think that’s the obstacle, is be careful what you wish for. She got this promotion,” he told TV Insider after Episode 17, “Mutiny and the Bounty.” It turns out that rank was not their only problem, since trust had been broken before and would take time to repair. “You might break it again if you leave her hanging tomorrow,” Lopez warns Tim when he decides to take things slow with Lucy. What will he do?
Oscar’s Back in ‘The Rookie’ Season 7, Episode 18
Oscar has arguably been the most elusive villain in the history of The Rookie. He is a no-rush kind of person and will bid his time for as long as possible. But in this instance, it seems like he’s been in hiding in Vegas. Nolan decides to pursue him, but Oscar seems to have been two steps ahead, keeping his eye open for an opportunity to take Nolan out. He strikes when Nolan goes to a vending machine to grab an energy drink. “Oh Nolan, this stuff will kill you,” he says after tasing Nolan, who passes out. What had always irked Nolan was Oscar’s ability to get under the former’s skin by mocking Nolan, and it hasn’t stopped. It might be true that Oscar doesn’t want Nolan to be killed by sugary drinks because he wants to be the one to do that. Will he succeed, or is this the end for him?
Tune in to ABC next Tuesday, May 13, to watch the Season 7 finale of The Rookie and see how everything plays out.
