Star Wars: Who Are Grogu’s Parents? Is He Yoda’s Child?

If there’s one thing that we know in the storyline of The Mandalorian, it’s that Grogu is still a child despite being more than 50 years old already. Of course, that’s probably because his species takes a while to age. But while we know that Grogu is still a child, the one thing we know is that he was alone when Din Djarin found him as a baby because he didn’t have his parents around. So, who are Grogu’s parents?

Grogu’s parents are still unknown because that is yet to be revealed during the storyline of The Mandalorian. However, the standing theory is that Grogu’s parents are Jedi Masters Yoda and Yaddle, who are the only adult male and female members of Grogu’s species that have been revealed so far.

The mystery of where Grogu came from and how he came about is still up in the air as we don’t know many things about him and his history before Din Djarin found him. Nevertheless, we will likely learn more about this child as the storyline of The Mandalorian continues. Let’s speculate about Grogu’s history and where this cute little green guy came from.

Who Are Grogu’s Parents?
There is no doubt that The Mandalorian is the best thing that Lucasfilm created over the last decade, as fans of this series are invested in the events of this series. Of course, we know that the main characters are Din Djarin, who is the titular Mandalorian character, and Grogu, who people used to call Baby Yoda because he is basically a baby version of Yoda.

During the events of the storyline, we see how Din Djarin eventually learns to love Grogu not only as his friend and companion but as a son. That is the reason why it was painful for him to part ways with this child and why Grogu was so attached to him even after Luke Skywalker offered to train him. But while Grogu may see Din as his pseudo-father, we know that he once had parents. So, who are Grogu’s parents?

At this point, we don’t know anything about Grogu’s history because that is something that is yet to be revealed during the events of The Mandalorian. Throughout three seasons of this hit series, the only thing that we know about Grogu is that he used to live in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant before the other Jedi were eventually killed during Order 66. Whatever happened in the near-30-year gap between the events of Order 66 and the time of The Mandalorian is something that we don’t know.

Of course, what is equally mysterious is Grogu’s past before the events of Order 66, as we seemingly know nothing about where he came from and who his parents are. As such, his parents are still a mystery at this point in time. The only thing we know is that Grogu grew up in the Jedi Temple and had been alive for more than 20 years before the events of Order 66 because he was already around 50 during the time of The Mandalorian.

Then again, because there are only a few members of Grogu’s species, fans actually have theories about Grogu’s parents. Of course, the one person that everyone had in mind was none other than Jedi Master Yoda.

Could Yoda And Yaddle Be Yoda’s Parents?
When Grogu was introduced in the first episode of The Mandalorian, fans were quick to make speculations about the young child’s identity. Some fans believed that he might have been Yoda reincarnated. But the fact that Grogu was already 50 years old at that time suggests that he and Yoda were alive at the same time during much of Grogu’s life. And this is where it gets interesting.

We know that the Jedi are forbidden from having romantic relationships and forming families because of the fact that these are worldly attachments that would only pull them over to the dark side. As Yoda once told Anakin, the fear of losing a loved one is one of the reasons why some Jedi were pulled over to the dark side. That was what happened to Anakin when his fear of losing Padme forced him to do heinous actions that eventually turned him into the Sith Lord named Darth Vader.

Of course, while Jedi Master Yoda was the one that told Anakin that fearing the loss of a loved one leads to the dark side, fans aren’t quite convinced that he didn’t have attachments in the past. And that’s because another member of Yoda’s species sat on the Jedi Council.

Jedi Master Yaddle was the only other member of Yoda’s species during the time of the Clone Wars. On top of that, she was the only female member of this species introduced in the Star Wars storyline. However, Yaddle died on 32 BBY, which was just after the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace when Dooku killed her before he became Palpatine’s newest apprentice.

Considering that Grogu was born on 41 BBY, which was nine years before Yaddle’s demise, it is possible that Yoda and Yaddle once had an affair that led to the birth of this child. The fact that Grogu stayed in the Jedi Temple almost his entire life is one of the reasons to believe that he could be related to Yoda. As such, even though Yoda often preached the importance of not having attachments, he might have been attached to Yaddle at one point in the past and fathered Grogu.

Of course, this is the most probable theory because Yoda and Yaddle were the only male and female adult members of Yoda’s species. We discussed in another article that Yoda’s species and homeworld are mysteries that the Jedi Master himself kept secret from the rest of the galaxy for reasons that we don’t know. And considering that we haven’t seen any other member of Yoda’s species and that both Yoda and Yaddle are incredibly powerful in the Force, it is likely that Grogu is their child.

Will Grogu Become A Jedi Or A Mandalorian?
Then again, we are only welcome to speculate because we actually don’t know whether or not this is true. We are simply pointing out the possibility that Yoda and Yaddle may have, at one point, reproduced and given birth to Grogu. But the fact that they are Jedi Masters that are held in high esteem could be a good reason to believe that they may not be Grogu’s parents after all, as they would have stayed true to their vow of not having families.

There’s also the fact that Yoda and Yaddle probably wouldn’t have wanted Grogu to stay in the Jedi Temple if he were indeed their son. That’s because he would have been a distraction to them, and we all know that the Jedi are not allowed to have attachments that will only cloud their minds and distract them from what’s really important. As such, if they actually had a son, the likely outcome was that they would have sent him over to their homeworld.

So, with that said, we can neither confirm nor deny that Yoda and Yaddle might have been Grogu’s parents. The only thing that we are saying here is that this is one of the possibilities that are right up there on top of the list of theories regarding Grogu’s parents.
