The Rookie’s fate at ABC is drawing up some mixed feelings amongst fans, who took to Instagram to vent over the news that some say “just ruined my day!”
While the beloved Nathan Fillion-led procedural has officially been renewed for Season 8, allowing many to breathe a sigh of relief, the network’s newly unveiled schedule has revealed that it’s being held for a midseason premiere, sending some viewers over the deep end over the extended wait for new episodes.
A fan account dedicated to the series shared the update on Instagram this week, with viewers spiraling in the comments as they reacted to the news.
“you gotta be kidding me i gotta wait a year,” one mourned, as another decided, “i can’t wait for another 6+ months.”
“i’m gonna die,” another wrote dramatically, with an equally distressed commenter complaining, “2026 is years from now 😢.”
“Way to ruin my Tuesday 😡,” someone else huffed.
“NOOO THIS CAN NOT BE HAPPENING AGAIN WTFFFFF,” another emphatic comment read, while someone else quipped, “Last time I checked it’s not April fools anymore?”
“😢I’m not fond of this news,” one fan admitted simply. “But it’s running past seasons on Lifetime. So I guess I’ll be ok. 👍🏻.”
Others tried to look on the bright side, too, with one “Grateful we get season 8” at all.
“It was the same timeline as with season 7… 🥹,” someone else pointed out, as the most recent season was delayed by the writers and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“It’s a longer wait, but I do love that the show runs without breaks! 🔥,” another said, with somebody else agreeing, “I am not of fan of when it starts in Sept and then it is off for weeks at a time! I do enjoy them showing the episodes back to back.”
Now all we need is a scrap of information about the series’ impending spinoff.
