A Ray of Light for Tony & Ziva: What Makes the ‘NCIS’ Spinoff Worth Looking Forward To?

Tony and Ziva’s relationship may not be defined in NCIS: Tony & Ziva yet, but that is a good thing. The NCIS spinoff will focus on the pair in Europe as they work together to protect their daughter, Tali. Fortunately, the NCIS: Tony & Ziva trailer has shown that the couple has rekindled their chemistry following both of their NCIS departures, but they are still not an official romantic pair yet.

The relationship between Michael Weatherly’s Tony and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva has been undefined from the beginning, ever since Ziva’s first appearance in NCIS season 3. The couple have had a highly exciting will-they/won’t-they, slow-burn relationship that never actually had a satisfying on-screen conclusion. So far, it seems as though NCIS: Tony & Ziva may continue this trend, but that could be a good thing.

After a multi-decade-long slow-burn relationship, Tony and Ziva have still not defined their relationship in the NCIS: Tony & Ziva trailer. More so, the trailer purposely avoids revealing the couple’s status. Tony even refers to Ziva as his “safe house roomie” in what is meant to be taken as a joke but really speaks to the couple’s ambiguity as a romantic pairing. The limited information about the pair is frustrating after NCIS had already stretched out their relationship.

…NCIS: Tony & Ziva can bring back the ever-popular slow-burn trope if the pair avoids outright stating their status.

Even though Tony and Ziva’s unknown relationship status is disappointing, it does mean that the pair are still figuring out their relationship. Rather than be upfront and state that they are not together or that they are, NCIS: Tony & Ziva is leaving both options on the table so that the couple have a chance to explore their relationship on screen in the new NCIS spinoff. There are more possibilities this way since NCIS: Tony & Ziva can bring back the ever-popular slow-burn trope if the pair avoids outright stating their status.

Tony & Ziva Finally Getting Married Can Still Happen On-Screen
The Couple Still Shares Romantic Feelings

While Tony and Ziva’s status as a couple is ambiguous, it is clear that they still have romantic feelings for each other. They share years of complicated history that only became more complex when Tony discovered that he had a daughter with Ziva. As a result of their relationship, complicated feelings, and their proximity through raising their daughter together, Tony and Ziva’s relationship in the NCIS spinoff could culminate in a wedding on-screen.

As the couple explores their relationship and past feelings arise, Tony and Ziva could get married in NCIS: Tony & Ziva. They have never had a conventional relationship, but their spinoff show could finally give them the chance to become a happy, married couple. However, if this does happen, the most important part would be to show the marriage on-screen, either in a season finale or at the end of an intense storyline.

Why It’s Important To See Tony & Ziva Officially Tie The Knot On Screen
A Marriage Would Be The Perfect Pay-Off For The Couple

Tony and Ziva getting married in NCIS: Tony & Ziva would be the perfect pay-off after years of having a tense relationship with no real happy ending. While slow-burn relationships that do not receive proper closure are common, relationships that involve faked deaths, revivals, and secret daughters are less common. Tony and Ziva have been through so much on NCIS that their lack of an on-screen happy ending on the show is almost a tragedy.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva will be available on Paramount+.

Seeing the pair get married in a spinoff show dedicated to their relationship would almost make up for NCIS’ decision to make their reunion happen off-screen. While NCIS: Tony & Ziva will likely continue to play with the idea of a slow-burn relationship for the show’s leads, it should offer a complete and happy conclusion to make up for NCIS’ lack of closure. A marriage between Tony and Ziva with Tali in the wedding party would be the perfect way to do just that.
