Arguably the most popular Jedi of all time is Luke Skywalker, who was introduced as the main character of the original Star Wars trilogy and was the one that rebuilt the Jedi Order more than 20 years after it was destroyed during the end of the Republic era. We saw a glimpse of this rebuilt Jedi Order during the events of the sequel trilogy, where Luke trained Kylo Ren and a few other Jedi in a flashback scene. However, we also learned that Ren killed all the other students Luke trained.
As such, we saw that Luke lived in isolation for years and had already given up on being a Jedi because he failed the son of Leia and Han and was partly responsible for allowing him to go to the dark side. But while the sequel trilogy focused more on the son of Leia and Han in the form of Kylo Ren, not many people know that Luke also had his own child. Nevertheless, there’s a catch.
Who Is Luke Skywalker’s Child?
A good part of Luke Skywalker’s life in the canon part of Star Wars was a mystery because there was a huge three-decade gap between the events of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Of course, in Episode VII: The Last Jedi, we saw that Luke was a man living alone on a distant planet and had exiled himself away from the entire galaxy after he failed to keep Kylo Ren away from the dark side.
Nevertheless, even though Luke was portrayed as a man that focused more on rebuilding the Jedi Order and training Kylo Ren, who is actually Leia’s and Han’s son, he also had a son of his own.

In the original books written after the events of Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order as the new Grandmaster of the Jedi. He ended up marrying a Jedi Master named Mara Jade, one of the characters Luke trained to be a Jedi. The marriage between the two gave birth to Ben Skywalker, the only child of Luke and Mara because they were too busy with the Jedi Order and the problems that came with being Jedi.
As such, throughout most of his younger life, Ben lived with Leia, Han, and his cousin named Jacen. Ben also became distant from the Force even though he was initially born to be strong with it. And it was the fact that he felt the pain and suffering of the millions of people that died during the Yuuzhan Vong war that shut him off from the Force.

Nevertheless, Ben eventually became closer to the Force as he grew older, and when he formed a great relationship with Jacen, who ended up becoming his unofficial Jedi Master. Jacen’s five-year journey throughout the galaxy allowed him to become stronger with the Force, and his connection with Ben allowed Luke’s son to feel his connection with the Force once more.
However, Jacen went to the dark side and became Darth Caedus. Because the Galactic Alliance blamed Luke for allowing Jacen to turn to the dark side, he was exiled. Ben followed his father into exile, and they tried to get to the bottom of what pushed Jacen over to the dark side.
Eventually, they stumbled upon a reformed Sith Order, with which they formed a reluctant alliance to fight the powerful Force entity Abeloth. Ben became close to one of the Sith apprentices named Vestara Khai, whom he fell in love with. And it was through Ben’s love that Vestara killed her Sith father and moved over to the dark side.
So, What’s the Catch?
As mentioned, Luke Skywalker did have a child in the stories written after the events of Return of the Jedi. Many of the other characters in Star Wars had storylines that took place after the events of Episode VI. So, what’s the catch?
The catch is that Ben Skywalker and the events that happened to him, his father, and the other Star Wars characters are not canon and have been relegated to part of the Legends storyline of Star Wars. Ben’s status as a canon character was retconned when Disney acquired Lucasfilm and decided to produce the Star Wars sequel trilogy (Episodes VII to IX). As such, none of the books that were written before the Disney acquisition are canon.

As such, Ben Skywalker, as far as the official Star Wars canon is concerned, never existed. In fact, neither did his mother, Mara Jade. So, while there may be fans that actually loved the storyline involving Ben, Luke, Mara, and even Jacen, none of those characters were ever made canon by Disney.
Does Luke Have a Child in Canon?
We established that Luke Skywalker had a son in the Legends storyline of Star Wars. However, Ben Skywalker was never made canon because of the Disney retcon of the stories after the events of Return of the Jedi. So, does Luke have a child in the official canon?
Unfortunately, Luke doesn’t have a biological child in the canon part of Star Wars because he focused more on rebuilding the Jedi Order after defeating the emperor. As far as we know, he had no romantic relationships in the 30-year gap between Episode VI and Episode VII. We even saw Luke living in isolation while trying to rebuild the Jedi Order during the events of The Book of Boba Fett, which takes place five years after the fall of the Empire.
In that regard, Luke never had a child and probably never even had a romantic partner throughout his entire life until he died in the events of The Last Jedi. Nevertheless, in the last scene of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey claims that she is Skywalker despite being a Palpatine. As such, she was probably claiming she was the child Luke never had.
