Shonda Rhimes, Bridgerton’s producer, hints at expanding the captivating world with more spinoffs.
Shonda Rhimes recently shared her thoughts on potential spinoffs for the Bridgerton franchise. With the successful debut of the historical drama Queen Charlotte: A BridgertonStory on Netflix, which received critical acclaim and spans six captivating episodes, the future of the Bridgerton franchise has become a topic of speculation and anticipation. Rhimes, who serves as an executive producer on the original series, has shown keen interest in exploring the stories of other intriguing characters from the franchise.
During an interview with IMDb, Rhimes revealed that her initial intentions did not revolve around developing a Bridgerton spinoff while crafting Queen Charlotte’s story. The character of Queen Charlotte, known for her uniqueness and distinctiveness, seems to stand on her own. However, as Rhimes delved deeper into the narrative, she made the deliberate choice to incorporate the stories of other intriguing characters. One such character is Lady Danbury, whose presence and experiences within the Bridgerton universe caught Rhimes’ attention. Additionally, she mentioned the introduction of a young Violet, intensifying the fascination she feels towards this character. With these insights, Rhimes acknowledged “there’s a story to be told there”, expanding the possibilities within the Bridgerton franchise.
“I wasn’t necessarily thinking about this as a Bridgerton spinoff when I started telling the story just because Queen Charlotte is so singular. But I also included the stories of Lady Danbury. And you get to meet a young Violet. And I think Violet is fascinating. And there’s a story to be told there,” Rhimes said.
