One of the things that we know about the storyline of the Star Wars sequel trilogy is that it is focused on the dyad between Rey and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo). We saw during the events of the final movie that this relationship was special as it allowed the two of them to connect to defeat the re-awakened power of the revived Darth Sidious. So, while we do know that Rey is returning in a new Star Wars movie set 15 years into the future, we haven’t heard anything about Kylo Ren. So, is he returning to the new Star Wars movie?
There hasn’t been anything official, but Kylo Ren may be coming back in the new Star Wars movie featuring Rey. But the thing is that he died back in the events of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, which means that he might return as a Force Ghost in the future.
One of the things that we know about Kylo Ren is that he is the most vital part of Rey’s rise as a powerful Jedi and that his story is part and parcel of Rey’s own story. It would be difficult to imagine Rey moving on with her own story without Ben Solo contributing to it. As such, we’ll stay tuned for any news regarding Kylo Ren’s possible return in the future.
Kylo Ren’s Possible Return Explained
Since the Star Wars sequel began with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, we know that Rey’s story has always been connected to Kylo Ren’s. Kylo Ren, as we found out, was Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, and fell to the Force’s dark side after being tempted and corrupted by Snoke (who turned out to be a stand-in for Emperor Palpatine). And we know Rey was also related to Palpatine because she was his granddaughter.
It was during the entire sequel trilogy that it was shown that the stories of both Rey and Kylo Ren were intertwined and that they were called the “dyad” due to a rare Force connection between them. That was the reason why they were vital to the defeat of the re-risen Emperor Palpatine, as they had a connection that was so unique that it allowed Rey to muster up enough power to use the Force to its full potential in defeating Darth Sidious.
Of course, we know that there will be a new movie featuring Rey Skywalker in a role that will allow her to rebuild the New Jedi Order 15 years after the events of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. But while we do know that the Star Wars story will continue with Rey, it is tough to imagine her moving on with her own story without Kylo Ren. So, will Kylo Ren return in the future?
In the final battle against Palpatine, we saw that Kylo Ren sacrificed himself for Rey as it was clear that he died as his body vanished and presumably became one with the Force, similar to how the other Jedi in the past died and eventually joined with the Force. This was symbolic of how Kylo Ren became Ben Solo once more and was able to redeem himself by joining the side of the light.
So, if that’s the case, it would be very difficult to imagine Kylo Ren ever returning to the new Star Wars movie featuring Rey in a starring role. After all, the new Star Wars movie seeks to establish Rey as a solo character without relying on the other main characters that we met during the events of the sequel trilogy, especially with John Boyega’s Finn presumably out of the picture already.
Then again, we are not dismissing the possibility of Kylo Ren returning, and that’s because this is Star Wars. We are saying that nothing is ever final in Star Wars because we’ve seen a lot of different characters returning in one form or another.
What Is New Star Wars Show ‘The Acolyte’ About?
Some of the presumably dead characters returned to life, as was the case for the likes of Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine. But we also saw the good guys returning in a way that’s different from how most of the bad guys returned. And that’s something that we’re going to talk more about.
How Could Kylo Ren Possibly Return?
If Kylo Ren may return to become part of the movies involving Rey and her New Jedi Order, then there’s a good possibility that he will return in the form of a Force Ghost. And this was hinted at by his death, as we saw his body disappearing and becoming part of the Force.
Some other characters that died this way were Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. Of course, we saw both characters returning as Force Ghosts after their deaths. And as Force Ghosts, they could influence the decisions of the characters they were connected to by providing wisdom.
Yoda encountered the Force Ghost of Obi-Wan, who was the one who convinced him to stay patient with Luke and train him. Meanwhile, in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, Luke encountered Yoda’s Force Ghost as the wise Jedi Grandmaster helped Skywalker by imparting his wisdom. And recently, in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Obi-Wan encountered the Force Ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn as they went on an adventure together at the end of the final episode.
In all cases where the Jedi encountered the Force Ghost of a person close to them, they needed guidance and help. And that could be the case for Rey and Kylo Ren, as they have always had stories that walked hand in hand.
Star Wars: Is Grand Admiral Thrawn Force-Sensitive?
The sequel movies showed us that the Force connection between Rey and Ben Solo was stronger than any other connection between two Star Wars characters. So, if that’s the case, we could see Rey interacting with Ben’s Force Ghost in the new movies, especially because her connection with him was never severed just because he died. The connection might be stronger now because Ben is one with the Force.
As such, we might see Kylo Ren returning as Ben Solo as a Force Ghost to help Rey rebuild the Jedi Order. After all, she might encounter problems that require guidance from another person. And that means that Ben might be the person she would seek help from, especially because their fates were intertwined.
