Led by Fran Drescher, here’s where the cast of The Nanny is today.
The Nanny was a CBS TV series that ran from 1993 to 1999. The show revolved around the prestigious Sheffield family of four who took on Fran, a fashionista from NYC, as their new Nanny. While the show performed poorly in its first season, The Nanny soon took off and became a domestic and international success. During its run, the series was nominated for several Primetime Emmy Awards. The popularity of the series led to a reunion special in 2004.
In recent years, there has been much talk of a potential revival of the series, but nothing has been made official. While we await a potential announcement of a revival of The Nanny, one thing we can do is rewatch the series and enjoy the laughs thanks to the talents of Fran Drescher and the rest of the cast. Considering that the series ended in 1999, the cast has had several decades to move on to new activities. Here’s where the cast of The Nanny is today.
Fran Drescher
Fran Fine is the nanny of the Sheffield family known for her bouffant hairstyle and her nasal voice. Her bubbly outgoing personality is a breath of fresh air for the Sheffield family as she becomes the mother figure for the children. Fran Fine was portrayed by Fran Drescher, who co-wrote the show with her then-husband Peter Marc Jacobson.
After her time on The Nanny, Drescher returned to TV with the sitcom Living with Fran and guest starring in several of TV shows. In 2021, Drescher became president of the SAG-AFTRA union, but she has not neglected her acting career, most recently reprising her role as Eunice in Hotel Transylvania: Transformania.
Lauren Lane
Chastity Claire “C.C.” Babcock is a business associate of Maxwell and is the antagonist of The Nanny. The two became rivals after C.C. convinced Maxwell not to produce the musical Cats. C.C. has a crush on Maxwell, but Maxwell remains oblivious to her obvious advances.
Lauren Lane took on the role of C.C. in The Nanny, and has appeared in a number of TV shows including Hunter and L.A. Law, while also starring in a few films along the way, with her last on-screen appearance being in 2019. While Lane’s career has slowed down quite a bit, it appears she is still open to taking on new roles as she sees fit.
Daniel Davis
Niles is the French butler/chauffeur of the Sheffield family. NilHees serves as a loyal friend and helper to the family, however, Niles can be manipulative, but also has the classic deadpan of Benson as seen on SOAP. Niles was portrayed by Daniel Davis, an actor who also became known for his guest appearances on Star Trek: The Next Generation as Professor Moriarty.
Over the years, Davis has made a number of film and TV series appearances, including The A-Team and The Hunt for Red October. Davis continued his acting career, reprising his role as Moriarty in Star Trek: Picard and also making an appearance in the medical drama New Amsterdam.
Charles Shaughnessy
Maxwell Sheffield is the employer of Fran and the patriarch of the Sheffield family in The Nanny. Maxwell is a Broadway producer who will forever be in the shadow of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Maxwell and Fran’s relationship evolves into something more romantic, and the two eventually end up getting married.
Maxwell was portrayed by Charles Shaughnessy, British actor and aristocrat known for his performances on Days of Our Lives and Stanley, which won him a Daytime Emmy Award. Shaughnessy has continued to be active on-screen, having a recurring role as Victor Cassadine on General Hospital.
Nicholle Tom
Maxwell’s oldest daughter Maggie is shy and awkward at first, worrying constantly about her future with boys. Thanks to the assistance of Fran, Maggie came into her own and became quite popular among her peers. Maggie was portrayed by actress Nicholle Tom, who is also known for starring in the Beethoven films.
Tom went on to have minor roles in The Princess Diaries and Ice Angel. Her last role was in the TV series Walk the Prank and while she hasn’t taken on many large roles recently, she is obviously still active in her acting career.
Benjamin Salisbury
Brighton Sheffield is the middle child of Maxwell, and because he has two sisters, Brighton often feels like the odd one out, but finds his own unique identity as the show progresses. Brighton was portrayed by actor and dancer Benjamin Salisbury, whose acting career is rather limited.
Since The Nanny, Salisbury has gone on to make appearances in D3: The Mighty Ducks and The Oc Kids. As of 2017, he has retired from acting and now works at Universal Studios Hollywood as the Director of Operations for the park.
Madeline Zima
Portrayed by Madeline Zima, Gracie Sheffield is Maxwell’s youngest daughter. Gracie has a habit of using terms and vocabulary that most people don’t understand. She builds up a unique bond with Fran that neither of her siblings have.
