Curtains Up: What Took Jen and Jason to the Theatre?

Jennifer Aniston was in New York last night with Jason Bateman and his wife Amanda. They’ve all been close friends for years and they were headed to support another friend, George Clooney, on Broadway in Good Night, and Good Luck.

Jen and George, of course, go way back, all the way back to NBC’s Must See TV in the 90s when Friends, Seinfeld, and ER all aired on Thursday nights and dominated the television schedule for years. That also included a Friends/ER sort-of crossover episode in which George and Noah Wyle played doctors, just not the doctors they played on ER. Not a true crossover but let’s not pretend it wasn’t cross-promotion.

As for Jason and George, there’s Up in the Air, a film I really liked when I first watched it back in 2009 (the world premiere was at TIFF), but haven’t gone back to and I’m curious to see how it might play now, given that the film was about corporate layoffs, doing them over video conferencing, and this was way before Zoom which is where it’s so normalised in our present reality.

Anyway, Jen looks great in this black suit, the pants fit her perfectly, and Amanda matched in her own black suit. But I laughed when I saw the photos of Jason – like I’m not saying he’s Adam Sandler here but it’s a cardigan, jeans, and scuffed boots. Which is not exactly at the level of Jen and Amanda’s fits but totally tracks not only for his personality but representative of a general husband look in certain circles, including mine.

In other Jen news, as Sarah wrote a couple of days ago, it’s Upfront week in NYC. The networks and streamers, like Netflix and Amazon, did big events but I haven’t gotten any information about Apple. The Morning Show is an AppleTV+ series and season four wrapped a while ago and is expected to drop later this year. So far they’ve not yet officially confirmed a release date but early fall is a strong possibility. Curious to see when they’ll put out a teaser.
