In the third episode of “Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service,” airing June 4 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay turns his attention to one of Phoenix’s most beloved restaurants: Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Cafe. Known for serving home-cooked soul food since originally opening in 1964, the restaurant is featured as Ramsay attempts to rescue its legacy in the new hit series.
Unlike Ramsay’s previous shows, “Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service” uses hidden cameras to observe restaurant operations before the celebrity chef steps in.
In the official description, FOX explains the show will feature Chef Ramsay as he “venture(s) into struggling restaurants under the cover of night. With the help of a secret source on the inside, he’ll gather raw, unfiltered evidence and get a 360-degree view of the major issues
facing each restaurant. This insider will not only remain a secret to the staff, but will also help Ramsay infiltrate the restaurant after-hours for a dramatic nighttime black light kitchen investigation that reveals more filth and grossness than ever before.”
Per IMDb, the third episode will focus on Ramsay’s mission to help preserve the legacy of Mrs. Elizabeth White, the 102-year-old matriarch who founded the cafe over six decades ago.
A Living Piece of Black History and Community
Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Cafe has long been considered a cultural landmark in Phoenix.
In an interview with AZ Central, longtime customer Mike Powell reflected on the significance of the establishment, saying, “Mrs. White’s is part of the family, part of the neighborhood,” Powell said. “It’s an extension of home.”
While Mrs. White is no longer involved in day-to-day operations, her family remains at the helm. Her son, Larry White, has taken on managerial responsibilities. In a teaser for the episode, Ramsay can be heard yelling, “You need to protect your mother’s legacy, not destroy it.”
As Ramsay steps in to address the restaurant’s outdated operations and leadership gaps, the goal is clear: to restore a cherished institution without losing what made it beloved in the first place.
